I'm living at what's basically ground zero for SARS in North America here in Toronto. Fortunately it's mostly going on in the other end of the city.

I think it's a bit overblown - it sucks that people are dying from it, but even here it's usually not the lead story on the news. Life is going on completely normally, and I've seen a grand total of one person with a mask on.

Of course, there have still been a couple of complete fucking morons who have gone to work with it, which quite frankly makes a compelling case for euthanasia, but they're under quarantine now.

I figure it really is just another disease of the week, like West Nile (which is supposed to come back once the warm weather hits) or Ebola or that other thing...

While I realize people are dying from it, I think this is yet another case of the media using something to scare the shit out of us, as Moore talked about in Bowling for Columbine... I remember hearing about West Nile every fucking day on the news (especially since I was in North Jersey, fairly close to New York, which was getting the West Nile)... it was so fucking stupid and overblown... I remember the news reports... "A bird today was found carrying the West Nile virus... we do not know if it flew around and affected birds in other neighborhoods around New York and New Jersey"... they made us stay in our house one night so they can spray... a virus that infected from what I can remember maybe 80 people and killed just a handful basically managed to scare the shit out of millions in that area. This SARS is a bad disease, yes, but until I am proven otherwise, this is just more FUD that the American media is leveraging to have us in a state of fear (last year = child kidnappings and shark attacks, you get the idea).

If I get the flu Ill go to the doctor. Since I got a flu shot it would be kinda weird if I do... not to mention the fact that flu season is over. No big deal.

I don't believe there are any confirmed cases in the States so far, so I'm not too worried. The scary thing is how apparently easy it is to transfer from one person to another. Of course if it becomes a problem, I'll have no problem wearing a Michael Jackson styled face mask.

Well I'm concerned about it because I'm going to China this summer. I've already gotten all my major vaccines so I'm not sure I can prepare myself any better. I've been considering rescheduling my trip, but I don't think I will. Anyways, it's a pretty tense situation in my opinion.

Yeah, It reminded me of the Stand too. Pretty weird, and I hope they find the vaccine soon, or that it wont mutate into even deadlier form.
