Thread: Student Protesting Ain't As Popular As It Used to Be

  1. Zinn's books are fun to read - sort of like a Marvel Comics Marxist "What If?" rewrite of history.

And, honestly, I think the better informed you are, the less likely you are to protest. Waving a sign that says "No War For Oil" in the midst of a crowd of people that agree with you is a fundamentally non-intellectual way to engage in a political movement. As you become more informed, one way or another, protest march stuff falls away and you move towards discussion, real communication, debate, so on.

Which is what a lot of protestors take part in. I've been to seminars and debates in which the lecture theatres have been filled with people. Nice try pigeon holing us but then I expected as much from you

  3. Eat a dick. What the fuck do "seminars and debates" have to do with the fact that "Waving a sign that says "No War For Oil" in the midst of a crowd of people that agree with you is a fundamentally non-intellectual way to engage in a political movement."

Obviously, there are intelligent people who like to go wave dumb-ass signs. I didn't claim that everyone who liked to wave dumb-ass signs was a shithead. I claimed that the ACT (can you read that?) of waving a sign is non-intellectual.

    Look:

"People who wave signs are fundamentally non-intellectual" is pigeon-holing.

"People like Sidez are idiots" is pigeon-holing.

"Sidez is an idiot" is not pigeon-holing.

"Waving a sign that says "No War For Oil" in the midst of a crowd of people that agree with you is a fundamentally non-intellectual way(!!!) to engage in a political movement." is also not pigeon-holing.

Or, wait. Were you accusing me of pigeonholing signs (and not the protesters themselves)? If so, guilty as charged. Show me a sign with a reasoned, developed, intellectual argument for or against the war, and I'll admit that the signs were pigeonholed incorrectly.

  4. this is a real protester - a man who walked the walk to the fucking core.

You know what would be great?

If all of us people in the northern areas of the US got up and protested...

    AGAINST SNOW IN FUCKING APRIL!

Stupid weather. If it's still snowing tomorrow, I'm going to be down in the city holding a sign that says, "SAY NO TO SNOW!" Man, this is so terrible!
