awesome, thanks.
Nippon Shootemup ( http://www.emudek.org/shootemup/ ) updated the other day. As it turns out not only do they have an updated version of Rootage (or however it's spelled) but a pretty cool one called Warning Forever. Similar to Rootage in that it's you vs a series of bosses, it diferentiates itself by being time based. Destroy boss, get more time, get boss with more bits bolted on, repeat endlessly. Infinite lives is nicely balanced by finite time. I didn't get too far on my one playthrough but what I saw looked pretty cool.

awesome, thanks.
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
Dling now...
Also, that page has the demo of Perfect Cherry Blossom. You should also download that... its fun.
Any word on how the shooting thing works in rRootage in the new Psy (Psyvariar, I'm guessing) mode? I can get the cage thingy around the ship to spin but it doesn't seem to do much else. More experimentation is needed or maybe some experience with Psyvariar.
-edit after a quick download- 88mph is right. Go download Perfect Cherry Blossom, it's great. I'm pretty sure it's actually a full version, though, but I don't have a whole lot to compare it to. Also, it seems to be an updated version of a shooter I'd seen before whose name completely escapes me right now. Anyway you look at it it's good stuff, though.
James
Thanks for the heads up--the game really gets insane after level 6 when thr bosses starts shooting laser beams and a barrage of purple bullets--good stuff.
Took a bit of rooting around, the Perfect Cherry Blossom game is an update of something called Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil, although I'm pretty sure that's not the name I downloaded it under. On the other hand, it's the name that shows up on the title screen so I'm going to have to run with it.
James
Warning Forever is pretty slick! I haven't played a good time-attack shooter since Thunderforce V, and being able to run Winamp and any shooting game soundtrack I want behind it is always nice (*kicks on Gyruss*)
Is there any chance a scoring post can go up? For once, I think I can compete with the shooting fans around here--my record so far is 27,000,000+ on Stage 14, 10 lives down (gotta get the actual score and stats later.)
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is a great concept and not too bad an execution--don't be afraid of max difficulty, since it only starts getting serious around the boss of Stage 2 (with that wicked time-stop-bullet-attack!) I'm wanting to find the full version, but it might be a doujinshi-type of game, only available on CD from a Japanese convention or mail-order site...
Good thing Nippon Shootemup managed to dig up Perfect Cherry Blossom, though!
It's been a good crop of PC/doujin shooters these past few months...

Misprint on my part; screwed up on the score.
<CRY BRINGER'S RECORD--> 2,491,700pts : Stage 14 : Dead 10>
(27 million is nuts! I KNOW I'm not THAT good... yet?)
Rhydant: No such luck. It looks like the vulcan gun's the only weapon in stock; it's the boss that powers up as you go...
BUT, I think it's the amount you attack certain parts that determines the growth of each stat at the end of each stage: wipe out the homing missile launchers early, and it will rack up more; go directly for the boss' main body, and it will increase it's attack resistance. I usually try my best not to die (-30 sec on the timer!) and tear apart each section equally and save the boss section for last; up until Stage 10, that is... by then, it's got six laser cannons, four spread-death-gun things and enough rear cannons to make life not worth living...
Try playing this game to non-shooting game music... it's nice!
