No, it was never assigned to me. I read it on my own after reading 1984, another book that I never had to read in HS.

Animal Farm is a wonderful book, be sure to watch the made for TV movie, it was really well made.

I don't even know Orwell, truth be told; I just ran into a tidbit of his "Pacifism is objectively pro-Fascist" logic, which elegantly expressed the perception I was getting from a segment of the anti-war protesters.

  3. With all this talk of Animal Farm and 1984, I feel compelled to mention Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and Brave New World Revisited.

Of all of these titles, I'd have to say Brave New World is my favorite, followed by 1984, then Animal Farm, and finally BNW Revisited.

  4. Yeah it is a great book, but not my fav. I also thought it was required reading for high school. I remember so guy renting the video for his kids cuz it was in the Children's section for some reason. He came back and was pretty upset. I thought it was pretty amusing.

You must be proud :P. Nice touch to mention McCarthy (the enemy)... That commie symbol is purty ominous I must say. Third time I've seen it actually.

  6. "Darkness at Noon" is a great, great book, and a fairly good anti-communist novel (although that may depend on your interpretation.) Koestler I think is the name of the guy who wrote it - it's a classic, easy read, engaging, pick it up.
