Get ready for dogfights in the flower power era.

Strategy First and Third Wire Productions have announced a new flight simulation game, Strike Fighters: Project 1. If you're asking why the world needs another flight sim, it's because:

1) It's made by the lead designer of European Air War and Jane's Longbow 2, winners of several Best Simulation awards.

2) You'll be piloting the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, one of the meanest, loudest, most butt-kicking planes in the air.

The game takes place in the 1960's and uses all the authentic weapons and physics based on the real-life counterparts. Missiles and laser-guided weapons don't exist yet, so close range dogfights are still a mainstay in this game. Expect the usual reflective mapping and texture layers, as the DirectX engine will be used to bring it all to life in blazing 32-bit color glory.

Check out Strike Fighters: Project 1 this summer.
