Thread: Gamer beats Zelda: A Link to the Past

  1. I'm sure they guy played through the game a few dozen times before, so maybe he just wanted to challenge himself. A lot like that Pac-man champion guy.

  2. The game isn't all that long, once you know what you're doing. I found myself clearing *some* dungeons top to bottom in 15-20 minutes when I played through last week. The old Zelda games are a lot shorter on replays and a hell of a lot shorter than their 3D counterparts.

Yeah, but that shouldn't really be all too surprising should it?

  4. That's what I thought, but everyone here seems to be pissing their pants at the thought of the new time record. I mean, I couldn't beat it in 2 hours, but I bet I could do it in 3 if I tried.

  5. Go for it burg.

  6. YOu can do it Burg! YOU CAN DO IT!... maybe?

  7. Psh, this is nothing. I have a video of someone finishing a track in Mario Kart Super Circuit in under 3 seconds. Now THAT'S something.

Also had a video of someone finishing Metroid Fusion in less than 1h 28m, that was pretty nifty too. I'll see about posting the Mario Kart video tonight, but if you can't wait that long head over to #gamecombos on EFnet and download it yourself, along with some other crazy ass Superplay Mario Kart videos.
If my memory of her has an expiration date, let it be 10,000 years.

  8. I'm not really impressed. There's no real point to beating the game quickly, so I don't understand why anyone would even bother to hold a record for it.

Frankly, I think the dude should have just bought a new game.

  9. shrug, speed runs through games can be somewhat entertaining to watch, like the old Quake done Quick/Quicker, and the Metroid run throughs. It's cool to see the kind of shortcuts that people use to do them.

That being said, it isn't something I'd actively spend time doing

You don't have to. The only items you need to complete the game that you actually have to go out of your way to get are the Ice Rod, the Ether and Quake medallions, the Flute, Zora's Flippers, and The Master Sword. There are a few others, but they're pretty quick and easy to get.

I've finished the game before with no extra hearts (aside from the ones you get from bosses), no armor upgrades, level 2 sword, and no bottles. I died about fifty times and I sure as fuck couldn't do it in 2 hours. What this guy did was nothing short of incredible.
