Thread: PS2- RGB- DVDs - Access denied

  1. PS2- RGB- DVDs - Access denied

A while ago I tried out Battle Royale on my PS2 for shits and grins, but lo and behold, the screen looks like it has a green filter with an RGB hookup.

    Why?

I think some one talked about this some time ago but I couldn't find anything on it..

  2. The XRGB2 article in GameGo issue #1 says that due to pressure from Hollywood, Sony removed DVD RGB support out of PS2s after series 10001. I think it has something to do with macrovision, it doesn't work through RGB or something.

  3. Yeah, Macrovision can't be inserted into RGB, so Sony was forced to disable RGB support on DVDs.

You can get around that with a "DVD Region-X" disk. I haven't tried this myself, so I'm not exactly how the procedure goes.

  4. PS2's drop into component mode when you play DVDs on them. I believe there is a pin you can short on some versions of the ps2 which will permanently disable component. Also most modchips fix this I think.

    Hope this helps

  5. Wait, does that mean that the first 10000 PS2's will work in RGB? I've never tried it myself. Mainly because I have no clue how to install my drivers off my PS2 utility disc. Anyone happen to have any instructions on how to do this? I've done it before, and I know it requires going through a bunch of screens full of japanese texts and pressing the correct buttons. Don't know if I could reproduce the process.

  6. I bought a DVD Region-X disc from Lik-Sang for 20 bucks. It allows you to play in any region with component cables.
