A while ago I tried out Battle Royale on my PS2 for shits and grins, but lo and behold, the screen looks like it has a green filter with an RGB hookup.
Why?
I think some one talked about this some time ago but I couldn't find anything on it..
The XRGB2 article in GameGo issue #1 says that due to pressure from Hollywood, Sony removed DVD RGB support out of PS2s after series 10001. I think it has something to do with macrovision, it doesn't work through RGB or something.
PS2's drop into component mode when you play DVDs on them. I believe there is a pin you can short on some versions of the ps2 which will permanently disable component. Also most modchips fix this I think.
Wait, does that mean that the first 10000 PS2's will work in RGB? I've never tried it myself. Mainly because I have no clue how to install my drivers off my PS2 utility disc. Anyone happen to have any instructions on how to do this? I've done it before, and I know it requires going through a bunch of screens full of japanese texts and pressing the correct buttons. Don't know if I could reproduce the process.
