Thread: NGPC - Sacnoth's Faselei!

  1. For what it's worth... Latter NGPC releases were made on flash carts, to save money. Unfortunately, after the surprise take-over and pull out most of the NA region games that were on the shelves or ready to be released (including Faselei!)were recalled and were simply converted into those pachinko games for the Japanese market by the evil evil evil Aruze - who orchestrated the entire thing.

  2. One cool thing about the flash-ROM nature of the Faselei carts is it can be suspended mid-game, ala Golden Sun and some other games on the GBA -- but it doesn't use any of the system's power! It simply saves the gamestate to the cart and resumes once you turn it back on. This also means you can take out the cart and play other games before going back to it. Neat feature.

  3. Yes indeed. That feature is very convenient. I especially appreciated it with Neo Turf Masters. It really added to the portable aspect of gaming.

  4. Oh man.

I love this game so much.

I've owned two copies of it so far.

You only control one mech during the game, and your partner usually isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but there are lots of things to discover playing extra missions. Hidden level 4 mechs, level 4 weapons, items, backpacks, special CPUs.

Took me a few battles to realize between rounds I had to manually reload my backpack with rounds for my weapons, and I had to carefully balance how much shooting I did in ratio to melee combat with a knife, or sword.

There are other TS (from many other countries with different makes per level) all with different stats and advantages/disadvantges, cars, tanks, planes, bombers, helicopters, the whole nine yards.

I'd say it has at least a good 40 hours of play time, if you want to play it without a lot of side battles and cash earning. A very good story is intertwined throughout the game, about princes, heirs to a kingdom, rogue units, honor, loss, gain, and sacrifice.

I can't reccomend this game enough.

One warning: while most NGPC games are dual-language, Faselei! is not. JPN region copies will only boot in japanese, no matter the system region set in your system menu. A UK, or now, US copy is required to get English/Engrish dialogue and menus.:kirby:

Yes, that is why it's important that these US units found their way to the market -- now we can actually play the game, as opposed to having to being afraid to touch it lest the $100 "investment" break or even become soiled with fingerprints. Driving up prices = teh evil.

Well, I got my first copy right as the pullout happened, from Special Reserve.

The second copy was a gift.

I won't tell you just how much the first one went for.

Sounds excellent. And I was about to ask about the dual-language thing. Once again, though... How's the multiplayer? Might be able to get a friend of mine to pick this up.

  8. traded beatmania WS for my UK copy

Great game! mech-strategy games are probably my favourite console subgenre. Too bad it's largely Front Mission and Faselei!

    I want Front Mission Online!

    I have absolutely no idea.

  10. Cotton is fun. It's not great, it's not bad, but it's Cotton so I'm glad I have it. Essentially a port of the first game, it's a cute horizontal shooter that's fairly short and not too tough. It's also been about two years since I touched it so I'm a bit fuzzy on specifics, but if you can find it cheap I can recommend it more for collection completion than anything else. Plus I like Cotton.

Now if only I knew where my NGPC was. It vanished into a box in a move and I've never seen it since...
