Thread: Aquanaut's Holiday

    Aquanaut's Holiday

I have owned this game for some time and finally decided to play it today. After a short while playing, I must say this is one of the most boring games I have ever played. Roaming around in DC Ecco the Dolphin is way more exciting. I wasn't expecting an action game but still. Does this game get better? The instruction book doesn't give you much instruction.

I always see this game for really cheap, and the visuals never grabbed me. Is is a Sub type game or just exploration?

It's a first-person exploration game with no real guidelines. You can make sounds to make fish swim near you and gather things to build a reef. The graphics are dull even by 1996 3d standards.

  4. It's a Artdink game...so...yeah. Tried Everblue 2? A few people on this board seem to enjoy it. *-neo

  5. I remember this game ranking pretty low in most magazine reviews. Most said the game lacked any real motive.

I'm not a big Artdink fan but Mr Domino is quite cool.

I haven't tried Everblue 2 yet but I will rent it.

  7. I just picked up Aquanaut's Holiday this week for $5. I "played" it for about an hour...and I don't think it will be seeing much rotation. It's the kind of thing you put in when you're too tired to play anything else and you just want to relax (although this can be counterintuitive, since it's irritating when you stop dead after you touch the seafloor). I dunno...it is what it is, and it's not really a game.

  8. Just because there isn't a boss doesn't mean it's not a game.

I think that Artdink made some orignial and creative games that (mostly) got shat on by the media and public. I really enjoyed Tale of the Sun, and Carnage Heart was bad ass - you built your own mech fighter and wrote simple (or mildly complex) programs instructing it how to act in battle. It kept me busy for more than a few weeks.

    On topic.....

I liked AH for the open nature of the game itself and the fact that there wasn't any goal to rush towards. I does give the game a relaxed feeling that lends itself more towards occasional play, but I do think more people would like it if they gave it a chance.

Did Artdink make any more games than the ones I mentioned? Any word on potential releases?

Yeah, that's what I was about to say.

  10. Actually, Natsume just released a puzzle game by Artdink as a $10 budget title. The US release is called Turnabout, and the original Japanese title is U-SA. I picked it up the other day, and it's quite cool. I believe it's the product of just one guy (Shinichi Senoo), and it's been ported to an online Java game (though I couldn't get it to work last I tried, and I don't have the URL right now). Anyway...
