The best modded Xbox?

So I'm thinking I need an Xbox now, just because of the variety of stuff you can do with it. Assuming you had a limited budget in some way, what mods would you give the highest priority to?

I'm guessing I'll start with the basic Matrix chip + expanded HD mods (I saw a guy save Splinter Cell to the HD in 10 minutes and I was sold on that much) but after that what makes a good combination of mods?

-IR power mod?
-Xbox media player?
-Linux?
-Xbox Live?
-Other?

If anyone already has a modded box, I'd like to know what you have in it and what successes or problems you've had.

Don't mod your original XBOX, that is if you want to use XBOX Live that is. Its possible, you just have to flash your bios back to the orginal every time. Pain in the ass i think.

you can use live if you get a switch installed (to turn off the chip) and use original live games. the bios doesnt need to be touched.

My buddy got the switch, works like a charm....by the way, an un-modded XBox is a useless one....me thinks Microsoft allowed this.
