Ah I remember that era well, back when I had very little cash in my pocket, and the concept of a pile of shame was unheard of.
Gaming, for me, is as fun now as it ever was (and we are talking about a LONG time), probably because I no longer have time to overload on it.
As for "now v. 4 years ago", the upcoming "best" games seem as good, if not better, than the "best" of those days. [If someone laid Steel Battalion down in front me back during one of my Gun Griffon sessions, I think I would have done a "Scanners" right then and there.]
Way better value today, as well. I was paying at least $50 and more for SNES/Genesis games 13 years ago. Even back in 1981-2, a game (for C64, Atari 800, etc.) cost $40 or so. In 1981 or even 1990 dollars, today's games (virtually all of which can be purchased new for $39-$45 or less) are a steal.
No complaints. There always seems to be something fun to play.

Well, I didn't think you were dumb or anything, I just think that when you're in April, you're smack-dab in the middle of that year and not really "coming off" the last one. Just the way my brain works.Originally posted by Schlep
Well no shit. Stop the presses. Obviously 2003-4=1999, I'm not dumb. As I said, we were coming off of a great year in console gaming and preparing for another.
But I am dumb for forgetting the NGPC came out in '99. That was pretty darn cool, y'know, for the 6 months it lasted.
I'm pretty positive that was the spring of '99. EDIT: unless the import came out in '98, in which case never mind.Originally posted by xS

You leave out System Shock 2 in order to praise Unreal Tournament?Originally posted by Captain Vegetable

I totally agree with ya there neo!Originally posted by NeoZeedeater
And the two best games of 1999 weren't Dreamcast games, they were Unreal Tournament and System Shock 2.![]()
1998 had some great games, so far 2003 hasn't put out anything that great. Nothing beats Metal Gear Solid.
Windwalker was okay, but it was just too easy to be taken seriously. Xenosaga is nowhere as good as the prequel.
That is such a reach. How can you compare the GBA SP to the dreamcast, first of all. And every game on that list was originally released in 2002.Originally posted by Tyler_Durden
and in 2003:
Xenosaga
Ikaruga (GC)
GBA SP
Wind Waker
Splinter Cell (GC;PS2)
Panzer Dragoon Orta
There are probably more good games now than ever, but the classics are less frequent
Mid 2002-Now have been pretty terrible. I guess 99 wins by default. 2000 and 2001 were pretty solid.
Ok, sorry for jumping the gun. When I think about games, I tend to think about them in E3 years, since that's when we get the preview for the upcoming year. So a game year would be May 2003-April 2004 for me. I'm probably the strange one.Originally posted by StriderKyo
