Thread: Nader for President in 2004

  1. Wolffen, dont a lot of countries do that? IE, you vote for the party, not for the candidate themselves? I think its like that in Germany and some other places, could be wrong, though, European Politics is not my specialty nor do I want it to be.

Sure, some support abortion, some dont, blah blah, but really at the core of it they're all money-grubbing whores who will grovel to whomever throws money in front of it. The Democrats have basically defined their organization for decades on "whatever the Republicans aren't doing". Its really quite sad and America is in need of another Populist party.
I totally agree. While they're differences are more highly emphasized in the press, they're pretty much all corporate yes-people. Democrats put on song and dance to make you think they care about you, but they are just saying that to get your vote and once in office, they'll pretty much do the same things a Republican would, if maybe along a different path.

Yes it is like that in most European countries. But their vote is divided along percentage lines. So if you get 10% of the vote, you get 10% of the goverment seats. It wouldn't work in the U.S. because ours is a "winner-take-all" system which lends itself more towards candidates rather than the party as a whole. It didn't always used be this bad though.

While I don't care for either's politics, I think they are actually good people. I don't say this because they're black, but because I believe them to be good people. I can say that about a lot of people, regardless of skin color. So how does that make me racist? Once again, your logic doesn't make sense.
    You are spectacularly stupid.

Please, please, please read posts before responding. I was criticizing people who:

1.) Think Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell are good people.(except for Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice)
2.) Who think everyone else in the Bush administration is evil. (who think that all Republicans are evil)
3.) Who couldn't tell you the difference, politically, between Condi/Powell and the rest of the Administration. (who are just confused/trying to work for change inside of the party).

I don't know how many people I've talked to who think that all Republicans are evil...except for Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice, who are just confused/trying to work for change inside of the party. This is a really, really common view on my campus.

It's stupid, but it's also racist, in a way - what, whites know enough to be actively evil Republicans, but African-American Republicans are just unwitting dupes?
Those people are racist. Do you fit into those 3 categories? If not, then, obviously, I wasn't calling you a racist.

  4. Stone, I'll consider myself at fault, but your posts are so much the same that I feel if I've read one, I've read the all.

I'm getting a little sick of your elitest attitude too. Do you ever take a break from being a complete ass?

  5. What, I'm supposed to cater to and fawn over you because you can't read?

Read my response at the bottom of the page - you see anything criticizing you, anything caustic, whatever?

Your post, following, bottom of page 2, had "And I may have underestimated the totality of your assholeness," in it. Follow that up with blatant, stupid misreadings of what I've posted, and yeah, I'll probably come across as an elitist. Stop and think for a bit before posting, and you'll stop perceiving that "elitest attitude".

  6. My goodness. You continue to try and connect stuff that have no relation. Take the first part, moron, where I said it was funny how you didn't had the Democrats winning in any of your scenarios. That has no relation to the asshole statement which describes your views on why you like Greens, for taking votes away from Democrats and thus, pushing your Republican cronies into office. Seperate the two and it'll make more sense, even to you. Sorry if you couldn't see that. Should I have put in smiley face for you?

And it's not that I can't read, it's that I'd rather not run over the same old drivel you constantly subject readers at TNL to. We all know you're a Republican schmuck. Get over yourself.

  7. I'd like to officially suggest a PFC: Political Fight Club here at TNL. First members: Stone, Carter, Spacecowboy, and Almaci.

Diff, as SC said, it might work that way in Europe, but it's not "Winner Take All." That, and European countries tend to have more than 2 parties in their systems that get seats. The point of my previous post is that I feel most Americans vote party instead of candidate. While I can understand that to some extent (it's hard to work up enthusiasm for your local attorney treasurer or whatever), it irks me. With the melting pot we have here in the US, how can the party that is most likely supported by Klan members also see to the political needs and desires of conservative African Americans? How can the party most supported by wealthy actors also appeal to the poor and middle class? I'm not saying that there isn't a middle road, but come on. I personally feel that voting across party lines is, well, lazy. Granted, I'm sure I'm out of touch with the rest of America's voters. I'm a conservative liberal/liberal conservative.

I'd still like to see the old rule of VP being the runner up in the presidential vote come back though. Can you imagine if Bush had to listen to Gore for the last 3 years? "You realize, that, according to the Ahhmerican people...you are sitting in my chair."
Never under any circumstance scrutinize the mastication orifice of a gratuitous herbivorous quadruped.

    I liked that idea too.
