Edit: How could I forget TS2?!?
I was gonna do a break-down of each game but its already done. At least we agree it should be in the top ten best, and seeming as 2 of the games you mentioned came out within the last 2 years, that makes Halo one of the top 3 in the current "generation" of games anyway.

To see it as overrated I can understand, but to even hint that the game is sub-par on the whole is ludicrous. So many things were done in Halo in a way like never before. The bar was raised WAY up in many aspects of the game, especially sound.

I had a chance to sit in on the Halo Sound Post-Mortem, and let me tell you, they did things in this game with sound that people are probably STILL trying to figure out. Of course, I'm biased, so I'll try to curb my enthusiasm.

PS: GE? Any game that is meant to be played like Metroid Prime (like a 3D FPA, not an FPS) shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as games like Halo and NOLF. Also, TS2 is apparently overrated on these boards. Great game, not as good as some may make it seem.

  2. Doom - Singleplayer, no. Singleplayer Doom is pretty boring and very simple nowadays (three keys, every level, blah).
As opposed to "Go forward, trigger door?" Doom is still the king of intense FPS', and just because it labels its objectives more blatantly then others doesn't make it less of a game.

As far as co-op goes, I have yet to play an FPS that bests Serious Sam. Multiplayer easily goes to QIII, especially CCTF.

Agreed. But I always thought GE was crap.
The fact that those graphics are in-game is amazing. This game will definitely take the title of "Best Graphics Ever." For a short time, of course...
If you're refering to games released, it'll be beaten before this year is up. If you're refering to next year, it'll be beaten another few times then too.

Although you do have a case if you exclude PC games.

Like what, besides not having an end boss?

I agree that Halo takes way too much shit on these boards. It's the best FPS on console and it can hang with best PC ones. Halo isn't very original but it's extremely well-made.

I've played all three Marathons and I'll agree that those games have a better feel and flow to them (well at least Marathon and Marathon 2: Durandal do. Marathon: Infinity was trash), but I like being able to split an enemy's skull with the butt of my gun.

  5. the problem with halo's multiplayer is that there aren't a lot of options. and that makes it a lot less enjoyable than goldeneye. the fact that you can only carry two weapons is kinda boring. it works well in the single player game, but in multiplayer it just isn't fun.

and that's surprising cause counter-strike is so damn fun. hopefully bungie will add a bit more depth to the multiplayer the next time out...

    Oh, you mean this Marathon?

    Okay, just checking.

There are plenty of options in Halo multiplayer, most of which have no analogue in GE or other FPSs. People just rarely use them, and just want vanilla DM, Team DM, or CTF.

TS2 has a ton of options too, like I said, if you like GE, you might as well play TS2.

  7. another thing that is cool about goldeneye and ts2 is that there are a lot of characters to choose from. in halo all you can be is the master chief. gets kinda boring

  8. Ok- Halo's multiplayer was fun, ill give it that... but to respond to Delta:

Wow. Most people thought that carrying two weapons was an interesting twist on the FPS- Im glad that I now know that it was boring. Now i know, and knowing is half the battle... wait.. wait...

But Seriously, i read these boards allot, and post rarely.. But Delta- seriously, I really dont think anybody would mind if you just left this forum for good- save us a little time from reading all that shit. *sigh* some people are just naturally so F'ing annoying that they need to be rendered deaf and mute to save us from the pain... and, since this is a forum, chop off his hands for saftey.

Thank you, this has been a Public Service Announcment

I agree with that. I assume it will be addressed in Halo 2, at least giving some more models to MP with, if not allowing for Covenenant warriors (or whatever the next game is about) to be used.

Halo's only good level is The Silent Cartographer. All the indoor levels are bland and look the same, and once the Flood comes into play, the game falls apart.
To all the people judging Halo based on its one-player mode:

    STOP IT!!

That's like saying Street Fighter 2 Turbo was lame because it didn't have as good a story as Art of Fighting. You're completely missing the point.

Trust me, it's alot more fun once you figure out how to get past the title screen...

and then played goldeneye for hours.
...and you have three friends who aren't stuffed animals.
