That's what got me thinking. I'd buy that law enforcement staff might be bugged as a matter of policy, and Agents usually morph from those types. I think the bum morph is the only civilian morph in the films.

That's another possibility. Though I think the Agent left Ash not because of the jolt, but because he received a fatal wound. Agents don't possess the dead.

The script mentions "fusion" IIRC. For all intents and purposes, fusion = nuclear fusion. Note that when I say "nuclear fusion" I'm referring to the process generally and not to the kind of fusion generated by a nuclear fission reaction, i.e. the H-bomb.

Presumably the machines discovered a super-efficient way to achieve a fusion reaction using the electricity generated by the human body. If our current-day knowledge of nuclear fusion is any guide, it seems like they'd need billions of humans to create just one successful reaction, although the energy payoff would be well worth the expenditure.

Isn't there a "Physics of the Matrix" book out there? It probably explains the (imaginary) process in greater detail.

The bug has nothing to do with it. In the first Matrix an Agent also possessed a business man (the guy who had his cell phone stolen by Neo), followed by a bunch of people shopping in an open-air market, and then a couple of elderly people during the apartment chase. When Agent Smith is hit by the train, he possesses a random people on board the train, although since you don't see who you could argue it's a police officer. However, in light of all the others I don't think that's it. Also in the Animatrix, they don't try to possess the detective until after the bug is removed.

They generally try to possess law enforcement because of the high risks and nature of them to be in combat against terrorists (which Morpheous is labelled as by them). Explaining that numerous SWAT team members died during a gunfight is more believable to the general public. As opposed to hearing that a bridge club was found dead with handguns in a government building while trying to stop armed gunmen, which would just raise suspicion. It also largely deals with convience and time factor, as the Agents showed possessing people out in the open during the market chase because they didn't have any choice.

I'd say he technically died. His heart stopped and he lost conciousness, which qualifies for me.

Again, I disagree. She nearly died. I don't think any healthy person would die so quickly from an abdominal wound anyway.

I think that deals more with getting the plot in then it does with sticking to realism. Yeah, they could've sat around for a while and had her die later and then Neo save her, but that would've dragged out the end of the already 2.5 hour movie needlessly.

I seen it again today, and I'd like to point out another cheesy moment. This one is just dumbfounding, I can't figure why the hell they did this. The 100 Smith fight is incredible, the whole thing works really well for me. However, there is one shot that is mind-numbingly dumb. It's right after Neo gets his pole and hits the guy with it to shatter the concrete. Right after that, he jumps over to the middle of the park they're in. The thing is, when he jumps he holds the pole out straight with both of his hands and spins like a top! Godamn that looks retarded.

There was really no point to it, it was just for show. Well, it did server a purpose, it moved him from the far corner of the lot to the center, so it to set up that fantastic part when he knocked one of the smith's into that building. Sure they could have just had him do a little flip over there, but spinning around looked cool.

Possibly to avoid getting swamped by the release based on the numbers done by The Matrix Reloaded. Even though there is a mixed reaction to Reloaded, everyone that has seen it wants to see the final part of the trilogy, and it should be huge, and that is what Smith and company want to avoid. I just had another interesting realization... with Smith's mention of something from Neo being "overwritten or copied" onto him, and everyone theorizing this is in fact the anamolous code that defines Neo as 'the One'... could Smith do whatever Neo failed to by going into the Source himself?

Question that I had after watching some of the Animatrix:

Wouldnt the EMP from Nuke blast FRY alot of Machines??? But judging from SR they didnt seem to do much to Machine Hordes at all, but then later Zion uses EMP on their ships quite efficiently against sentinels.

Plus, couldnt machines build the EMP-Resistant versions of themselves(since they got knowledge and technology)???

Maybe such an attack is impossible to defend against. I mean, it shorts out electrical systems! How do you stop that?

Even now there are certain materials that can provide insulation against EMP, and I'm sure in the future the technology advances much further. Plus robots in Matrix have all knowledge and technology available for them, plus all those humans they taking care of, so they might use their sleeping brains as a think tank. It just one of plot holes of Matrix universe

Maybe they haven't needed to "evolve" that far. Maybe they don't want to. Keep something the rebels can hold on to while getting The One to the core and reset the system. Plus, even with that EMP weakness, the machines have still been kicking ass. Lose a few sentinels, have replacements built by lunch time. And doesn't using the EMP disable the ship that fired it? It has to be charged and the ship has to be landed to do it. Send in a second wave for easy clean up. There are a million possible explainations.
