Nintendo to Reveal LAN Compatible Custom Robo

Nintendo is set to unveil a new GameCube version of its previously Japan-only mech series, Custom Robo.

Nintendo originally published Custom Robo, a fantastic mech battling title with RPG elements, in its home country back in '99, with a sequel, Custom Robo V2, coming out a year later. The games were critically acclaimed by the Eastern media and sold well enough, yet the series has never seen the light of day outside Japan.

Until now that is. According to Computer and Videogames, Nintendo will be revealing a brand new GameCube edition of the series at E3, which is expected to launch worldwide. Much like Mario Kart, PSO 3 and Zoonami's top secret project, Custom Robo is expected to have a big focus on LAN play. Indeed, CVG comments that it'll be one of the key titles for this feature.

Look out for more info on the new Custom Robo in a couple of weeks.

  2. yeah, it seems like quite a few games are gonna support LAN play at Nintendo's E3 booth.

im actually gonna be somewhat suprised if F-Zero doesn't have LAN play considering that there's already network code in the game.

im hoping that Star Fox has it most of all though.

  3. Custom Robo is crazy fun. I love that game. V3 has been rumored for about a year, and I'm glad its actually happening. GOTY candidate for sure.

  4. I just can't get too excited about LAN play. If you don't have that many friends with a GC nearby, what good is it? I thought the purpose of buying the GC BBA modem was to be able to play online.

It's better than nothing but having to settle really sucks.

  5. Nintendo is always behind the times when it comes to things like this. We are just getting non cart games, demo discs and now LAN. luckily they do things good when they finally do them.

  6. im not excited about the actual LAN play, but the opportunity it'll give us to have some real online gaming going.

let's just hope that GameSpy can do this right.

Alright. I have a history of missing sublties in issues such as this but:

I'll be amazed if some sort of Online doesn't come out of this. Really, LAN code with a Broadband Adapter...I mean, all that is keeping this from being online is a server.

And all that's gonna do in this case is relay data and hook up players.

  8. I try not to read threads that may be useful it tends to please moderators and condecending and cocky motherfuckers who just show up in a thread with a link and drop it down like I just ruined thier day.

Not to say you did that, you were being cool and pointing one out. .

I'm familar with packet tunneling in theory, but not in practice. I never looked too much into Halo online so I wasn't aware this is how they did it (it is, isn't it?)

But as is, it sounds like the game is designed to run with 2 gamecubes only, so whether or not it'll be laggy to the point of being unplayable will probably only ever come out if and when it happens.

Like I said, I've had a history of thinking things were simpler than they were, so I was just trying to be honest with myself.

  9. i heard a while ago that gc owners of f-zero will be able to play people at the arcade. true or false?
