PS3, officially declared backwardly compatible - thoughts?

Playstation 3 has brand name recognition. Sony will probably use it, 10 cents adds up, but 90 cents adds up more considering all the sales.

I don't see the need for any backwards compatability at all. Hey, little Timmy, I've got an idea. When it comes time to buy your PS3, don't trade in your PS2 with 45 of your PS2 games for a $30 discount on your PS3.
