It had a decent ad push, the ads were in just about every gaming mag i have seen, it had a prominent play on eb's in store video thing(to catch undecided shoppers) and i think i recall seeing the tv ad a few times. I think it was just too quirky and different looking. The reviews were almost uniformly good, and the word of mouth buzz on a few gaming forums i frequent was positive, i think it just looked too different. Pity about no sequel, i would have liked a more refined fighting engine, given that the only 2 buttons mechanic did wear on me after a while, but it had all the makings of an interesting series.

Although BG&E was featured in many gaming mag ads leading up to the holidays, it was not promoted or hyped by gaming critics as much as lesser quality games such as PoP, FFX-2, Zelda WW, Viewtiful Joe, etc. Take a look at various GOTY lists, and you'll see what I mean.

Zelda WW: cartoon rehash of Zelda TOoT
PoP: unintuitive controls. I couldn't get past the first room in the demo.
Viewtiful Joe: fun if you're a masochist.
How any of these games are supposedly better in critics' eyes blows my mind.

It's not... it's just something I've never heard before, and I might never hear again. I want to cherish this unique literary treasure for a bit longer.Originally Posted by RedCoKid

Anyway, sad sad news indeed for BG&E. I'm going to blame poor marketing for the title as one big reason. Not bringing it out in Europe seems rather dumb to me (c'mon, it's Mr. Rayman here... the French will eat that up on the Cube and the Xbox).
