Thread: Beyond Good & Evil - Official Thread

  1. there is far to much hype for this game at TNL, it's good but it's no GOTY contender. just enjoy it for what it is.

  2. the only real complaint i had with the game was the control. i dunno if it was unresponsive or too "fluid" if that makes any sense. that and every time i tried ot play air hockey HH somehow stood right in front of the camera EVERY time making it impossible to play.

  3. Haven't gotten that far yet. The only notable complaint I have with the game so far lies in the fact that Pey'j gets in the way sometimes, although since it's quickly remedied, it's not a big issue.

Thank ye. Got all the critters. Missed a few pearls, got impatient, and went ahead and beat the last boss. I'll go back and get the other pearls later since, as I understand, it doesn't affect the ending.

Anyway, I finished it, and I enjoyed the ending. The last boss was pretty impressive. I really do think this is a serious GotY contender. The art direction, music, and presentation are flawless. The game manages to be very cinematic despite probably having no cutscenes more than a couple minutes long, just because everything is so well integrated. Very well paced and well designed.

Yes, and Wind Waker isn't half the game this is. Wind Waker lacks basic common sense in terms of style and pacing, and pretty much everything that isn't dungeons is a chore, and many of the puzzles in the dungeons are unintuitive and a walkthrough's almost a neccessity at times. Didn't really have that problem with BG&E. BG&E pulls together all the same elements as Wind Waker, but where WW's stealth and exploration (sailing) elements weren't fun, BG&E's are.

Wind Waker "lacks basic common sense in terms of style"? Are you kidding me? The style is one of the best things about the game.

I do agree that the pacing sucks. Wind Waker isn't GOTY, it's a brilliant game but it definitely has flaws (the pacing, mainly - the shard quest sucked). KotOR and Prince of Persia are better, among others. I do think Wind Waker is better than Beyond Good and Evil in almost every respect though, aside from pacing. The sailing got old and affected the pacing after a while but the hovercraft isn't any better than that talking dragon.

Zelda's combat is infinitely better than BG&E's, as are the boss battles (even though BG&E's bosses look pretty cool, as I mentioned). I know this is somewhat subjective, but I thought Wind Waker was more epic - it took place in a huge, cohesive world, whereas BG&E's world feels like a little town on a lake. And yes I know you end up on the moon or something, but I don't think that's going to change the feel very much. And the much-hyped story is passable but I've seen better - KotOR's was better, as was PoP's. I'm not very far in the game so I won't make any final judgements but so far I'm severely disappointed. The game just feels forgettable overall. Definitely worth $10 though.

  6. Zelda's combat is more refined, and is smoother, but BG & E's is still fantastic. Beyond that though, I don't get the comparisons between the two games.

At any given time, I can always see where I'm going to in BG&E. In Zelda it can literally take 5-10 minutes of staring at a blue screen to get somewhere, and the abundance of retarded filler bullshit in the game just highlights this all the more. There was no needle in a haystack island hunting in BG&E, there was no fetch questing, and the sailing was short, and fun. And the sailing wasn't the only thing wrong with the pacing, it just made the problem, much worse. Zelda was a 10 hour game padded with 20 hours of bullshit.

And your right that Zelda has great (visual) style. I'm not really sure what I meant when I said it was lacking apart from that I like BG&E's style more. I was tired

I also can't leave the slaughterhouse, because that bitch mayor won't give me the code to raise the main gate so I can leave until I get more pictures.
If you are at the Surveillance Room...

Climb up to the landing above where you have to shoot down a flying unit. Forget about getting past the 2 rotating lasers for now. Stay on the near/left side of the room, and shoot a disc through a rotating gear to hit a switch on the far/right side of the room. Immediately jump off the side of the landing and run down the pipes to your hovercraft. The gate should now be open and begin to close. Ride your hovercraft through to the dock on the other side of the gate. From here, Double H and Jade can climb the pipes up to the far/right side of the same landing, where you can access the save station and a ventilation pipe overhead...

    Good luck!

    (and to RedcoKid.)

I did this already. I docked and Double H dis-a-fucking-peared. Hello beginning of the game.

    Fuck it, I'm playing Castlevania.

Sorry, I must've glanced past Frog's post. It was in that exact spot that he disappeared? Strange. I played through the PS2 version twice, and it never happened. I had heard rumors of a Slaughterhouse glitch, but I thought it had to do with one of the save stations. I kept 2 save files on my first trip through the game. Well, it was only $20, right?
