Thread: Advent: Rising

  1. Advent: Rising

Okay guys, I haven't seen a single mention of this game here, so I decided to start the official thread for it. I suggest picking up the latest Game Informer, for they have a great article all about the game.

The game seems to be a 3d action adventure with a lot of shooting, hand to hand combat, vehicles, and more.

    Nice big pics:

    Press Release:

    MAJESCO INTRODUCES 'ADVENT RISING'
AN INTERGALACTIC QUEST FOR XBOX AND PC
    Award-Winning Sci-Fi Novelist Creates Back-Story
For New Trilogy of Video Games and Novels

EDISON, NJ, April 28, 2003 - Strengthening its position as one of the industry's fastest-growing publishers, Majesco, today announced Advent Rising, the first in a trilogy of games for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and personal computer. _Featuring an unprecedented collaboration between interactive entertainment and science fiction writing, famed novelist, Orson Scott Card, embellishes on the gripping storyline behind Advent Rising, and will author a novel based on the game. _Both are scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2004.

_"While technological advances continue to open doors for exciting new gaming experiences, storyline remains the one element most critical in allowing the gamer to feel like an essential part of the game's outcome," said Ken Gold, Vice President of Marketing for Majesco. _"The tremendous literary vision of Orson Scott Card coupled with GlyphX Games' masterful approach to graphics and game play mechanics, ensure that Advent Rising will captivate the mind and emotions of the player, while pushing the bounderies of gaming to a unprecedented new level."

"What I found most interesting about collaborating with Majesco and GlyphX on the Advent Rising project was their sincere desire to create a game in which the story served as the springboard for all the other elements," added Orson Scott Card. _"Creating an engrossing story is paramount in establishing credibility with players and allows them to connect with what's happening on screen."

In Advent Rising, a common legend pervades the galaxy - that of a powerful, ancient race that will one day unite the universe. _Millions of cultures from vastly distant worlds revere and hallow these mythological beings known as humans. _One race, the Seekers, know humans actually exist and are threatened by their potential power. _Under the guise of benevolent explorers, the Seekers travel throughout the galaxy in a desperate attempt to eradicate any human society they unearth.

Players assume the role of Gideon Wyeth, a remnant of the last human outpost, on the brink of discovering the incredible powers that lay dormant within him. _It is these powers the Seekers are so desperate to suppress.

Developed by GlyphX Games, Advent Rising is a third-person, intergalactic action/adventure of truly epic proportions, akin to a fast-paced action movie where the player is swept up in an ever-evolving series of sequences and events. _Built on Epic Games' Unreal Warfare Engine, Advent Rising offers precise, refined play-dynamics with action-packed adventure and style, wrapped in a visually imaginative universe.

Advent Rising will be unveiled through exclusive screenings of a specially created game trailer at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, May 14-16, 2003. _The official Advent Rising website is located at www.AdventTrilogy.com. _Additional information about other exciting products included among Majesco's E3 line-up can be found at http://www.majescogames.com.

Have GlyphX made any games before?

    The graphics are certainly impressive.

  3. They were more of a design firm in the past, people would come to them and have them design things for them, like box art and stuff (warcraft 3) or cinema scenes (Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver). Check out their website for more samples of what they've done.

Here's a trailer of the PC version. This game looks very cool, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

  5. The Majesco PR guy told me all about it. It sounds really interesting, but the video they showed was mostly out-of-game cinematics. Still, they looked decent. I'd like to see how it turns out.

  6. I'd like to see how it turns out as well. I read the GI article and was left underwhelmed. It looks great, and the premise is nice, but I'm still a bit critical of the developer. Call me biased.

They updated their site with a lot of new content, some new vids and you can listen to some in game music. After seeing the vids I'm not as excited as I once was for this, some thing about the bland enviroments and choppiness turn me off. But, I really do like the high flying bullet time gymnast stuff, I eat that stuff up, so I would still like to give this game a try. The logo for it looks way too much like Stargate's earth symbol logo.

I saw some Video of those on G4's little video show...very impressive if you ask me.
One shot was of him jumping up while being sorrounded by enemies hitting the ground, creating a shockwave that knocked everyone back and broke everysingle window in the room. But the shockwave wasn't visible.
Other whots were him doing some nice TK and kick the hell out of some other bad guys along with other nice jumping, running, and gunning.
    all in all...i can't wait.

  9. I read an article on this earlier in the year in Play. Seemed interesting then. I'll have to see where my interest is when it comes out.

  10. Tommy Tallarico had nothing but praise for it when I met him at the spring Philly Classic show. I assume he's doing the tunes. Other than the Play article a while back, I admit I haven't seen anything else though.
