Nick Cage to star in Dead to Rights game

Well, Here is the news:

"Nicolas Cage will star in an adaptation of the Dead to Rights video game, says Variety. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the film with Cage and his Saturn Pictures partner Norm Golightly, and they will begin pitching the project to studios immediately. Screenwriter Kevin Brodbin (Constantine) will make the pitch and likely write the script.

Cage will play Jack Slate, a disgraced cop who is hell-bent on discovering who murdered his father. The film is designed to have the Hong Kong-style action that has made the game so popular. The game's rights are controlled by Namco.

A sequel game is being produced for Christmas 2004 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube formats.

"The videogame is so compelling because it has so many rich elements and the trick is to cut them down and get to the core story," said di Bonaventura. "The central character is emotionally tortured and that always makes for a good movie and a good Nic Cage movie."



While many here thought DTR was terrible, I found that this game wasnt that bad. The action sequences and finishing moves were hella wa fun to do And PS2 version improved on Xbox version quite a bit.
I just hope they get everything right, and it will be Hard Hitting R Rated action flick, and not your average PG13 bore-fest

I am NOT a Nick Cage fan. I don't know why, I just don't like the man. If he's not screaming "I'm Caster Troy!!" then I don't care what he's doing. Interesting news on the movie, though.

And they needed to base the movie on a game to come up with such an innovative never before seen plot device?!

I'm not a fan of Nick Cage. I used to, then there was a point where he wouldn't turn ANYTHING down and his true ass-acting become even more apparent.

nic cage was actually at my school giving lectures in all of the film classes. he was apparently visiting his cousin, roman copella, who lives in santa cruz. i guess he figured it'd be nice to drop by the campus and enlighten all of us.

i liked dead to rights a lot, so a movie would be cool. i always pictured someone a little more asian-looking to play jack slate, though.
