What baffles me about USaga is that Famitsu gave it a Silver award... I mean, I've had my doubts about Famitsu's critical acumen for a while, but giving this game such high scores is insane. Japanese gamers didn't seem to enthralled with it either, as I spied tons of copies for around $15 just a few months after release in shops there.

As much as I'd like to be surprised by this score, I can't be. It's a well known fact that Square is a one trick pony. Aside from the few gems like Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger during the SNES days and more recently, Kingdom Hearts, nothing they've done outside of the Fantasy franchise has been worth noticing unless it is phoenomonally(sp?) bad like the Bouncer.

Square didn't make the Bouncer anyway. As much as I'd like to bash them, it's unfair to give them a bad rep for a game that they only published.

For PSO, it's lacking one essential element that all the Phantasy Stars had, that is a story. The gameflow of the PS series for me at least has always been moving from plot point to plot point while doing a little leveling up along the way. Removing the story changes the flow of the game completely, so much so that I really don't see it as part of the same series, but more of a spin off like those gun suvivor games are to the RE series.

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that this rates so much higher than any other version ever?

Are there more additions than the characters and voice support that I just didn't hear about?

If not those must be some characters.
