Heh, fuck the P.C. bullshit -- that kid is a fuckin' mountain of fat.

It's one thing to have a pudgy kid. It's another to have a 5-y.o. that weighs more than a fucking grown man! Hell, I'm by no means skinny but that kid doesn't have too far to go before she weighs as much as me!

That kid should be taken from her parents by CPS or something, because NO person that would let their kid's weight get THAT out of control should be considered competent enough to raise offspring. That is unhealthy, idiotic, and CRUEL. A body like that has to feel like a goddamned prison of cellulite.

Why is it so hard for some parents to just say "no" to their kids once in awhile?

  3. My god, that kid is HUGE!!!

Why would a parent let that go on?

LOL. I know - I just wanted to read the reactions to it. I've been hearing the 'p.c. police' are trying to eliminate offensive terminology such as 'fat' to describe said 'condition'.. Irony, given they've got a mountainous task ahead of them :P.

  6. WTF, their parents should be ashamed...

    Only 5 years!!!

  7. You people really think this is just cuz her parents overfed her?

She's gotta have some kind of disease.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

Then why don't you tell us what sort of disease would cause a child to get so fat, Mr. Wizard? There are disorders that cause excess fat, but none that I have ever come across can cause it on that magnitude with a normal diet and exercise.

Maury's talk show typically isn't about strange diseases because they aren't interesting. Stupid parents are. :P

And in addition to the disease thing (assuming that disease is the cause of the problem), it still does reflect on the parents. You'd think that at one point, they would figure out that something was way the fuck wrong and take that kid to see a specialist and get her some help!

I'm not one to point the finger at parents, but geez, one can get help before parading the poor butterball around on daytime TV!

There is NO REASON and NO EXCUSE for letting a child get that fat. Period.

  9. An underactive thyroid. Granted, that wouldn't do that much damage, but blaming this totally on the parents is unfair. I'm sure they had some part of it, though.

Well, an underactive thyroid can only do so much (its effects are sometimes grossly exaggerated), and most of its problems can be avoided without much trouble (usually minor changes in diet and exercise). Hell, I have one, but it's no secret that my being overweight is due to the fact that I eat garbage and drink booze.

The thyroid is undeniably a factor in weight problems, but it usually isn't the sole (or even the main) cause, and it's often used as little more than an excuse.

Either way, the parents are to bear the greater part of the blame here. That kid is 5 and can't fend for herself, so it's their responsibility to look out for her. Letting her eat herself to death, thyroid problem or no, is not competent parenting.
