Thread: Sai-Rec CvS2 combo video

  1. Sai-Rec CvS2 combo video

There was a preview video of Sai-Rec's combo video floating on the net for the past 6 months now, but the video is finally complete. This is hands down the best CvS2 combo vid I've seen in a looooong time. The combos themselves are crazy as hell (witness the 100-hit Todo, 60-hit Chan and 70-hit Kyosuke combos), the editing is great and it's over 20 minutes long. Daaaaamn.

check www.sftchina.com for the video.. go to their news page and scroll down until you see an image of a moon with the words "Sai-Rec" pasted over it (the news article is timestamped 2003-5-19 17:01:01). Click on the image to download and prepare to be blown away. BTW, the video is a little over 100 megs, heh.
If my memory of her has an expiration date, let it be 10,000 years.

  2. Well whooptie fucking doo. If CvS2 didn't suck I'd download it. Oh and thanks for posting it on versuscity, too!

Many thanks, Reno. Lots of great vids on that page, but most of them seem to be down for the time being. I got the 77 meg video, great stuff!

Can't wait to get the 144 meg tomorrow.

  4. Cool video's Reno, thanks!

cka: why go out of your way slagging of cvs2 when all Reno is trying to do is share cool video's with people who appreciate the game.:l

    Strange guy:l

  5. Very well done production wise.

    I don't know.

    maybe it is me?

But I don't find corner trap, infinite super combos interesting.

Case in point: Kyosukes 100 hit combo. While it is amazing from the standpoint that he can do the controller motion continuously and not have his thumb fall off, it's just not that interesting. Same with the first Todoh combo. Whoop-de-freakin doo.

The first Blanka combo was pretty good. As was the first Balrog (Bison) combo. well-varied, and not reliant on corner traps.

I guess I'm just not impressed by the fact that he can do a 4 hit combo with Haohmaru.

Tournament footage is so much cooler, but yet so much harder to find on the web. I wish more people would work in actual 2p competition into their videos.

  6. Doh - I tried DLing it, but I got cut off. Anyone know if it's up on kazaa?

As for the infinites - the only one I've tried to pull off is Kim's. It's not that the actual moves involved are hard (although hitting them that consistently is), but the timing is ridiculous. You literally have 2-5 frames to hit the falling body, or you'll miss. I can't do more than 2 or 3 hits of it before they end up on the ground. Anyone who can pull them off definitely possesses ninja skills.

CvS2 isn't perfect, and before playing it on Live I had pretty much the same opinion - why bother? But it's a game with good points and bad, and the good definitely outweigh the bad.

    • The different move buffers can be adjusted to, it just takes relearning them. They aren't really bad, just different, although I would prefer some of them to be a little bit more forgiving.
    • Non-command throws completely suck - too much range, too much damage, to much priority. That's easily the worst part of the game, although I guess they are techable if you're good enough.
    • Some characters certainly are more powerful than others - Cammy, Sagat, Bison, Honda, Vega, Haohmaru and Blanka definitely have an edge. But that's all it is, an edge, not a guaranteed victory. If I get off a good round, I can take out a player of equal skill's Blanka with Yuri or whoever no problem. And if you can parry or just defend well, you have the ability to neutralize pretty much any of the advantages they have. Any game has top tier characters, and CvS2 is nowhere near the worst offender in this category.
    • Priorities seem awkward in this game, especially compared to SF3 or Alpha 2. It seems they use a bell curve, and a move will increase/decrease priority as it goes through its animation. Other Street Fighters do this as well, but not to the same degree. Some moves gain a few frames of invincibility, but by and large most moves will trade given the right timing. This has the tendency to make things feel sloppy, but like the buffers, this can be adjusted to. It's just another thing to relearn. Again, if you can parry or jd, this is pretty much irrelevant since you have the power to make almost any counter attack a guaranteed clean hit.
    • Droppers/cheapasses - yep, they're there. They suck. Capcom could have handled the online rankings better, but it's not worth throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Plenty of people don't drop, and it's not like there are no jab-jab-throw dumbasses in the arcade. In spite of the issues, the fact that I can play anyone anywhere is still awesome and well worth the price of admission. Especially when you see someone pull off an awesome cancel, trap or custom combo you didn't know was possible before - I've learned so many cool things this way.

Compare that to the game's positive aspects - the huge roster, the fact that they got most of the SNK characters right this time, the massive depth that the different grooves offer, color edits and character name changes, online play (when you have a good connection, it's perfect) and best of all the fact that it exists at all - this is Capcom vs. SNK after all, how cool is that?

By and large the game's issues can be worked around, and the huge cast combined with the fact that you can play it against real players in the style of pretty much any major fighter you want has kept me coming back to a game I wrote off a long time ago.

I'm getting really tired of A groove combos.

  9. Really? I almost never see them. Rolento, Sakura, Geese once or twice and that's prety much it.

It's generally a parade of C-groove shotos and top tier guys, so getting bounced around for a while is a welcome change.

Actually, it was done with a pre-programmed controller.
