I don't recall seeing a release date set in stone for the redone PS2. Which is a shame since I'll be buying one due to my PS2 giving me DREs.
at E3 they announced something about a newer model PS2 that has an improved chipset, thus smaller/quieter fan, and a quiet DVD drive. it also supposed to include the modem/LAN unit.
any ideas when they are supposed to go on sale? i think it's time i bought one.
thanks

It's supposed to be out on Wednesday, June 4th.

Is this the new SCPH-50000 which doesn't have the iLink port?
That would be the one. June 4th, eh? I'll wait until mine officially craps out.

Ooooo, wonder if mod-chips will work with that one...
Is it pretty easy to get a typically current PS2 model modded? I'm considering buying one to get modded...
The system has released, but it isn't an updated model. It's simply the SCPH-39001 with a Network Adapter. It even states the model number right on the box. So much for an updated system. Still has the iLink port and no infrared port for the DVD controller.
tomorrow the bundle packs should be in stores
I was in EB on Wednesday when about seven people were trading up and paying the difference for the new system.
I went back today to pick up Ultimate Muscle and I saw four of them back at the store complaining to the manager that EB had ripped them off. I'm really good friends with the manager, we go back to grade school, so I explained to them that it says the model number right on the box and that Sony is the one they should be blaming. One of them actually started to cry, because he spent $125+tax CDN more to purchase this system for nothing.
yeah they dont have the new systems in them
its still the 39001s which is a shame as weve had alot of people looking for and thinking that it would have the 5000 models in them
sony seemed to hint this too and then didnt deliever
