Thread: Sony making a Halo killer?

  1. Better than DOOM?@_@

Who wants to play Doom on console when there's the superior PC version?

Halo is the best pure-action FPS to be released on console first.

  3. Powerslave is done better on the Saturn. And what about Prime? It's probably better than any PC FPS not named NOLF, Serious Sam, Deus Ex, and System shock 2 released in the last 6-7 years.

  4. Halo is also one of the best mulitplayer experiences I've ever had the pleasure of having (and if anyone even follows this up with counter-strike they are getting an are you fucking serious) because it is fluid. Its easy. No one I've played this with has gotten overly frusturated (with a few exceptions) and no one who's come to one of our halo nights has passed up the opportunity to play it (that includes chicks who hate "teh gamorz lol wtf!!!111")

There are better first person shooters. There are better mulitplayer games. But I'd trade them all for another night of sixteen player halo with my friends, k, so just accept that the game has a loyal, deserved, following and go back to counter-strike, tribes, or whatever floats your boat.

  5. This is one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" things, as anyone who has played Gran Turismo 3 in split screen (especially in 16:9 mode) knows that the system has its limitations when it has to run multiple streams.

But even if all they manage is a step up from Socom with a ton of marketing, that should be a success.

That's why I said pure-action, xS. Metroid Prime is arguably better than Halo but they are quite a bit different. That's the problem with the genre and labels. What constitutes an FPS? Deus Ex is far better than any other first-person game but is it really an FPS and should it even be compared with games like Halo?

Powerslave isn't that great. It was impressive for Saturn hardware but it hardly compared to its PC contemporaries.

  7. The Saturn version was much better than the PC version. It was a top tier Build game.

  8. Metroid Prime is a single player experience based on exploration. I am one of those hesitant to call it FPS, because that is simply like calling George Bush an idiot.

Yeah he is one, but he is so much more to it than that word describes.

    So is metroid prime.

This irks! No company should claim their game to be the "killer" of any other game in it's same genre. It's childish and stupid. Kin (Kill Zone) is supposed to be out by Fall 2004 but by that time we will have (hopefully) played Doom III, Half-Life 2, and Halo 2 to death (among others). I'm betting that this game will get delayed because once the other titles mentioned are released, Sony's probably going to assess the project and find what needs improving and whatnot. Halo released in 2001 and Sony going to have their Halo-Killer in 2005 while other companies NOT bragging about it, are releasing their benchmark games in 2003 and 2004. Good job Sony

The Saturn version of Powerslave didn't use the Build engine. It used the Slave Driver engine.
