I think their talking about a gastric bypass operation where they put in a ring of sorts to restrict the size of your stomach and hence appetite. I'm not totally sure though.

gastric bypass is "stomache stappling" where they actually make it smaller... the ring makes it so that it stays the same size, but you can't eat as much at once... at least this is how I interpretted it.
