I've posted about this in the WWE thread because it effects the channel that Monday night Raw is televised on, but this is really annoying the shit out of me. This little self-important turd Spike Lee has launched the most frivolous lawsuit ever in this age of frivolous lawsuits.

Spike Lee Tries To Spike Viacom's Spike-TV Plans

Director Spike Lee has filed suit against Viacom over its plans to rename the TNN cable network Spike TV. In court documents filed Tuesday in New York, Lee asked for an injunction to prevent the name change from occurring. "I was extremely upset to see my name connected with a network when I had never given my consent to use my name," Lee said. Calling attention to the reasons Viacom officials presented for renaming the network ["It's unapologetically male; it's active; it's smart and contemporary with a personality that's aggressive and irreverent"], Lee said that those were all qualities "that the public, through media publications, had come to associate with me."

The Smoking Gun website has posted the actual court papers submitted by Lee's lawyers (he found legal counsel dumb enough to take this case?), which claim that the "Defendants decided to change the network's name with the direct intention to capitalize on the name recognition that plaintiff Spike Lee, one of the leading African-American filmmakers, has earned through years of acclaimed films and television productions in the film and television industry. Such an attempt to misappropriate plaintiff Spike Lee reputation and name in order to obtain a larger segment of the viewing population is exactly what the laws against commercial misappropriation were designed to prevent."

What a egomanicial little shit! I mean, this is bordering on insane. Doesn't he realize that no one gives a shit about him or his crappy low-budget flops? He actually thinks the guys at TNN said, "Yeah, let's name a channel after Spike Lee! That'll boost the ratings!" Stupid delusional bastard.

Next The Rock will sure The Learning Channel over use of the word "The".

Um...the word spike is...a spike. It's unfortunate that Mr. Lee was named after an adjective/verb/noun that can get a lot of use in day-to-day dialogue and NOT have anything to do with him.

I don't know there may be some validity to this case. I hear that they were aiming to call it ScorseseTV, but later chamnged thier minds because they wanted to apeal to a larger segment of the African American public. Sadly BET was already taken.
