Thread: USB ports on the ps2....no need for multitap?

  1. USB ports on the ps2....no need for multitap?

i was looking at some of my favorite import stores today and noticed some pc items that allow you to use a psx controller through your usb port. sure would be nice with epsxe. anyway, would you be able to instead use them on the ps2's usb ports and plug in 2 more controllers (with the other 2 in the controlelr ports) and thus not need to buy a multitap? i was just wondering if the ps2 would recognize the usb ports as a legitimate controller port.

I think it could be done, if the game was designed to support controllers that were connected to the USB ports. The vast majority of PS2 games don't utilize the USB ports at all. The games that do support the USB ports use them for various functions, such as keyboard, mouse, steering wheel, microphone, modem, or Ethernet adapter. Support for these peripherals has to be programmed into the game.

No game that I know of supports joypad controllers connected to the USB port. So, as it stands now, there probably aren't any games for which you could connect a joypad to the USB port and expect it to work in the game.

  3. wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy the multitap anyway then to get those adaptors?

  4. i dunno the adapters are only $6 a piece. dunno how much a multitap is.

  5. I've got one of those for my PC. I'll try it out when I get a chance and let ya know.

BTW, it's the single best controler I've ever used for a PC.

  10. multitap is $30, but I thought the adaptors were $20, so my fault. Anyway, as for the USB ethernet, I'm pretty sure it'll only work with the Tony Hawk games because those are the only ones that say "USB Ethernet" on the back.
