Looks like Japan isn't the most suicide prone of the industrialized nations...

I really don't think you can compare national averages between all of the USA and Japan, sociologically speaking, it's apples and oranges.
It's funny how, in China only, suicide amongst women is higher than men.

  2. It's tough to collect figures for ANY country! Also many of the underdeveloped countries are probably WAY under reported. I am sure the other highly industrialized countries in the top 15 probably have better reporting than Japan, but I don't think the figures are too far off.

  3. As I said, you are generalising..

Not all suicides are from "CLINICAL" mental illness just as not all murders are...

Just bacause it happens so often in the hands of lawyers doesnt make it THAT common...

Definitely, I just meant to point out that Japan has a strong cultural tendency towards under-reporting suicide.

Actually, I believe persistent suicidal ideation is pretty much an instant diagnosis of clinical depression or something worse. The act of actually killing oneself requires overcoming multiple instinctive and learned mental boundaries, and people generally aren't capable of that unless they've been in an incredibly deep despair for an extended period of time, to the point where normal rational brain function has been interrupted.

  5. I typically take a hardline stance on suicide

but considering all of the factors I think thats pretty sad. On that note, I seem shockingly like a "hikikomori" these days :/

Excercise, my man. Start pumping weights, playing soccer or basketball, or take karate or taekwondo or something. The endorphins demolish depression and lack of motivation way more effectively than any medication can.
