Thread: Photoshop Users: Help!

  1. Photoshop Users: Help!

    Here's the deal:

My default swatches for PhotoShop 6 have been acting screwy for a while now. Specifically, the grey-range colors all have a tint of red in them. Very odd, but not too much a problem, I figure. Just pick the grey you need by hand, right?

But then, whenever I scan an image, even if I'm telling it to scan in grey-scale, once it's sent to PhotoShop, it uses those retarded red-tint greys. And if I try to fix this using the Hue/Saturation adjustment, I can drag the values to the lowest, and it still looks red.

So I think it all comes back to the default swatches, or what makes those swatches behave like that. The only thing that I've done 'new' to the PC since this started was buying a new monitor, but it shows colors in all other instances perfectly fine. So then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling PShop; maybe the color profiles were still being used from the old monitor and won't match up with the new one. Still nothing.

As it is, I can still use PShop fine but it's a pain in the butt to have to get my greys looking grey. I really don't know enough about color profiles, or color management in general, to know what is causing the problem or how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Try going to view, and unchecking "Proof Colors" (alternatively, Ctrl+Y).

  3. I'll give a shot when I get home from work ^^

  4. this old, but:

I tried unchecking proof colors, then resetting my swatches, but I still get these red-tinted grays.

  5. I dont know if this applies to Photoshop, but could you change it to B&W and then switch it back to RGB?
To understand man, walk it shoe on other foots.

Bah, I have the same problem. And no friggin' clue how to fix it.

EDIT: If you go to "Edit -> Color Settings" and turn Colour Management off, you'll lose the red/brown tint on greys.

  7. I'll give that a try.

  8. Yeah, it's the color management setting in the color settings.

  9. raaaahrg! It still won't work. I have color management off, but swatch still has those reddish grays. And when I scan something in, the scanner software shows me things in 'neutral' gray-scale, but as soon as I import it to PhotoShop, it adopts the red-grays on the swatch. And it's just the default swatch I have loaded, so...

  10. Are all the Color Management Policies set to off, too?
