The difference is that the people who said those things during Seasons 4 and 5 were wrong.

The episodes being released today, by contrast, are terrible and will never be regarded as classics.

I don't understand why people don't like recent episodes. Let's take the recent one where Homer takes up medical marijuana. This episode provided such an entertaining look at the whole "stoner subculture" our country has, with such entertaining lines as "Otto is Otto spelled backwards! ...Now I'm scared." and of course, "Dude, your mom is hot." The Simpsons is still every bit as funny to me as it was a few years ago, people seem like theyre just looking for something to bitch about.
