The best Zelda clone ever? - Neutopia

If one didn't know any better one might think that they are playing Zelda on the Turbografx. It is so similar it's amazing. The graphics are nice and the large bosses are well animated and are a sight to see. The story is very similar to Zelda with minor changes here and there. I'm only on the 3rd world and am enjoying it.

For some reason this game brings back memories from Ys, not sure if it's the Centipede type boss or some of the catchy music, but it does.

Anyone enjoy it? How's the sequel?

Sorry about no pics but the links I was trying to use don't seem to be working.

  2. If by "best zelda clone" you mean the game that imitates it the closest, then yeah. Neutopia is fun, but they didn't do anything except change enough small details to avoid a lawsuit.

  3. Yeah, Neutopia probably did a better rendition of any other Zelda clone before or since. But if you're gonna rip off something judiciously, may as well make it one of the best games of all-time.

I still remember playing Neutopia 1 & 2 on my Turbo Express. Fantastic fun, though writing down the passwords was an enormous pain without the battery backup of the TurboDuo to save the game.

    Oh, and...POST 2000!!!1
    omg TNL epics!

  4. Neutopia was awesome but I liked Crusader of Centy on Genesis more.

Has anyone played Neutpoia 2? I wish I could find a copy.

i have it. they added the ability to steer your character in 8 different ways. classy.

  6. I'll have to track down a copy. I have the ultra bad Dungeon Explorer.

  7. Have you played DE on Sega CD? Awesome version that's really worth owning.

    I made a side-by-side comparison here.

I absolutely love Neutopia. Many fond memories of my friend and I playing it. We never did beat it though...
