Thread: I now live in So Cal

  1. I now live in So Cal

    at least for the summer.

I'm living in Pasadena. Any tips on the area, things not to be missed, good record stores, places to see shows, et al. Shitty thing is i don't have a car

  2. Poo-Bah is a great indy record store. I've been going there for years. I think it's on the corner of Walnut and Wilson. The guys who work there are super cool. There's also a Tower on South Lake that has a pretty decent selection, although it can be expensive.

Pak Mann Arcade is at the intersection of Allen & Colorado. I've haunted that place for years too.

If by "shows" you mean concerts, there aren't really any venues I know of, beyond like bars and stuff. L.A. is the major spot for that (obviously), which is about 20 miles away, but if you don't have a car that's probably out of your range.

If you mean movie theaters, though, there are several good ones in the area. West Colorado can get a little lively at night, with dudes doing chalk art and stuff like that. There's also the Pasadena Playhouse for actual plays, but I can't remember the exact location (it's off West Colorado though).

There are tons of great restaurants around, depending on your tastes.

If you're artistically inclined, check out the Norton Simon Museum (on West Colorado, closer to the Rose Bowl) or The Huntington Library (at the south end of Allen Ave).

    Ummm...

That's all I can think of just off the top of my head.

    Great post. Thanks

  6. Did the mall on Colorado Blvd ever open back up?

  7. congratulations, California is a cool place when in the right spots. I think Los Angeles has some nice areas, but the weather is a little too reminiscent of the stuff we get here in Houston - so I much rather prefer San Francisco. The cool breezes, amazing scenery and wonderful atmosphere of that city is paradise.

If you're talkin about the former Pasadena Plaza by City Hall, 7F, yeah, it got quite a nice makeover. I think it's called Paseo Colorado or something like that. It's more of an outdoor mall now, with a stadium-seating movie theater. I think it's even got some type of supermarket.

Hey stormy - if you like Italian grub, you must go to Bona Corso's on Lake and Walnut. Awesome place with decent prices.
