So wait... its out? When did that happen?
Alright. Someone let me know that i wasn't the only one that ignored all of the reviews and bought it anyway. Why not, anyway? I've at least enjoyed every English language SaGa released since the first was released as Final Fantasy Legends. I liked every single quest of SaGa Frontier, except Lute's painful 20-hour hell of chara building.
A lot of reviews have been calling the SaGa series experimental, but hm... Does experimental mean dragging a series deeper into the roots of what rpg's came from? The first 3 actually seemed to progress in gameplay and story. I haven't played much of the Romancing SaGa series, but from what i understand, it introduced the several-main chara thing and dabbled in the non-linearality. Then there was SaGa Frontier which came after Final Fantasy VII. The battle system was arguably deeper (but more random) but the story/stories weren't nearly as thorough and the rest of the game was a strange repetitive step backward of trying to figure out what to do next and strengthening your characters until they could beat the next boss. SaGa Frontier 2 was a step forward in almost every way. It had a more interesting story, but the battle system was even more unfriendly. Now there's Unlimited Saga which makes the original Dragon Warrior look like something we should be looking forward to when game systems can handle such a thing.
Maybe someone at Square just got tired of of hearing hard-core (or whatever) gamers (or whatever) complaining about Final Fantasy games being interactive movies. Now we're finally getting what we've been asking for this whole time.
As for the game, I'm enjoying it much more than i apparently should, but i'm also thinking that it should come packed in a box with a couple boards, some dice, figurines, and about a million cards... and no PS2 disk. ;3 Square-Enix would've probably found a more accepting audience that way, and think of the money they'd make on expansion sets and the "inspired by" soundtrack.
I'll be keeping the disk past the two-week return period, but if it even makes it out of the stores, i doubt most copies will find a happy home.
So wait... its out? When did that happen?
Out as of yesterday. Go buy your copy now if it's on your anticipated list, or wait a week for it to drop to $20.

Ok... is this some kind of review for Unlimited Saga? There's nothing in here that makes me rethink all the negative press, since you just hype the entire series the whole time, and then say you feel sorry for the game.

In other words, we're not sure if you hate it or if you love it. Use the english language to your advantage, man!

No, I'm pretty sure he likes it, but all the subtle insults and some kind of history of the series dosen't make me want to reconsider ever giving this game a glance, let alone a second thought.Originally posted by andyrose

I'll buy it, because the art looks bad ass.
But I'll wait for it to drop in price first.
Listening to the soundtrack while flipping through an art book is more fun/less frustrating than actually playing the game.

Man, I was looking forward to this game so much. Such beautiful artwork and the thing about all the possible characters made it sound like it was such a good game. At e3 I was wondering why nobody was playing it, so I picked up the controller myself. Even with the Square rep at my side, that game made absolutely no sense whatsoever! I gave up on it. Maybe I'll experiment with the game later, but for now I'm saving my money for Ape Escape 2.
