Thread: FF7-2 to PSP?!?!

    Beggars can't be choosers.

And the PS is still capable of decent graphics.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

If there was a PSP FF7 remake, it probably wouldn't be much of a graphical overhaul. Final Fantasy 7 is one of the games that would benefit least from a remake. Sure, they could upgrade the visuals and maybe add some new cities/sidequests, but that's about it. It's not like the MGS remake where Silicon Knights is implementing a lot of the gameplay upgrades that were featured in MGS2 in addition to a graphical overhaul. When remaking FF7, there's very little Square can do without drastically altering the basic design of the game. And if Square does that, it would most likely alienate fans of the original, defeating the purpose of the remake in the first place.

I'm not a beggar though. I'd actually prefer this not to be made but if it is, I don't want to see it on the PSP.

PSx has had some some nice 3D graphics for it's time(I'm still very impressed with Chrono Cross' graphics among others), but the pixely 3D madness needs to end. For a short while..it did...

Playing RPG's on a handheld isn't one of the better ways to experience them anyway. What are the odds that if the PSP gets big name games like these, we'll be seeing the PSP-Player...

But you're assuming the PSP is simply going to use the same old PS processor. I have a feeling we'll at least see a couple enhancements like Z buffering, filtering, and even perspective correction capabilities with the PSP. There's NO reason not to have these necessities nowadays.

  5. I'm sure there will be an emulator for it.

And in my eyes if it looks like FFIX then there's absolutely nothing to complain about.

Well they're not remaking it, so all of that doesn't matter.

And like I said, it is not necessary, nor beneficial in any important sort of way, but it would still be cool as hell.

What's the resolution on the PSP screen? If it's similar to the GBAs then it won't matter if the game looks as good as FFIX, because you won't be able to tell. In that case - much like the FFIX and CC on the PS itself - the only way to see the game's true graphical beauty would be through an emulator. Kind of a shame.

This is very true. Personally I'm a little concerned as to how much the PSP is going to cost.

And what 88mph said about FFVII being many gamers' first RPG is very true. It certainly was mine. I don't mind sequals to FF games so long as the quality doesn't start to go down hill. Since all the games up until X-2 have been in completely different worlds about completely different people there really hasn't been any reason to call the "Final Fantasy" more than any other Square RPG. FFXII could be called "PeeWee's Amazing Quest" for all I care, I'd still be intrested since I've enjoyed Square's work.
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.

  8. This is the kind of thing that will crush Nintendo.

The PSP's UMD media is 'smaller' than the PSX's CDs, but the storage capacity is more than double that of a CD. And any loss in FMV CG quality will not be as apparent on a smaller screen. FYI.

I definitely agree here, I'm not onboard with the "every FF since 3/6 is crap because I'm so hardc0re" boat. To me, VII is still good, but to me showed the series was slipping, VIII was just plain terrible, I loved IX and it's defintely my favorite of the 32-bit and later FFs, X I never got into, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad, just not my cup 'o tea.

If Square does indeed make an FF7-2 exclusive to PSP, it will indeed be a system mover. But it alone will not sell me on the system until I see it's price point, other software library, and whether or not it overcomes a myraid of other potential problems (size, battery life, durability, etc...)

    SPOILERS!
Actually, Omni, there are some things Square could do with VII-2. For one thing, people who've followed the history of the series closely know VII was supposed to have multiple endings, one of which you brought Aeris back to life. If VII-2 were to happen, it would probably follow along this type of story arc much like X-2 is about Yuna trying to find Tidus after he went bye-bye at the end of X.

Also, if I remember correctly, Sephiroth did not definitively die at the end of VII, so it could also have something to do with his returning for revenge on Midgard (was Midgard right?) or with Cloud chasing him down to finish him off.

Lots of potential directions for the story to go.
    omg TNL epics!
