Thread: Confidental Mission

  1. Pick it up cheap and you've got a winner. Most of the slowdown from the arcade version has been removed. It's a shame Sega didn't bother (or didn't have the balls?) to release a Dreamcast gun in the States.

I'd like to see CM get a second chance on PS2 with GunCon 2 support and the $20 price tag of the US DC version.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  2. Whatever. It's a solid gun game (better than the most of the crap on the PS/PS2) with some really interesting twists to break up the monotony. A lot of fun provided you play it with a Euro/JP official Dreamcast gun. I spent $40 on the Euro import and can't say I've regretted it one bit. And don't touch that crap VC2 on the DC - it's a brutal port of the brutal PC edition running on Windows CE.

The arcade version seemed like a lesser Virtua Cop but still fun. I never bothered getting the DC version.

  4. It's short, it's fun, but nothing really great. Considering the dearth of lightgun games on DC this was a game I had to get.

BTW I don't see why you need a official Sega lightgun when you can buy a 3rd party gun. Madcatz makes a pretty cool DC lightgun.
Right, because if anything validates the existance of a handheld piece of shit, it's taking those shitty handheld games and placing them on a screen big enough so that the inherent flaws of the software is visible to all humans. Including Ray Charles.

This is pretty accurate. Confidential Mission does have some of the gimmicks that first appear in The Lost World, like branching levels, and stuff. Speaking of which, I'm still pissed we never got a port of the Lost World, easily one of the best light gun games ever.

  6. I really like the arcade game, although its a bit short.

The lack of a reliable DC lightgun makes tough to enjoy, though.
You probably don't think I'm a very nice guy...

I was upset myself that JP:TLW as well as L.A. Machine Guns were no-shows on Dreamcast. Sega had a rich mine of Model 3 goodness that they were sitting on, but they didn't bother to tap it. This goes against the "Smoke 'em if you got 'em" logic. The Model 3 ports that did come out were not all they could've been- Sega Rally 2 was hampered by WinCE and Virtua Fighter 3 needed just a little more time.

If only there were a firm US release date for Virtua Cop 1 & 2 on the PS2. I've heard a rumor of an 8/15 release date but SoA doesn't list it on their site.

The MadCatz guns were good. I have a pair, and they never gave me trouble. They were good enough for me to finish all the House of the Dead training, as well as all the Confidential Mission training with. If you've tried to get through them all, you'd know the guns are pretty good.

I love Confidential Mission, but I'm a sucker for gun games. It's kind of short, but fun, campy, and over the top.

And yes, yes, yes, I'm also pissed we never got the Lost World on the DC. If I had to pick between the two arcade games (CM and LW), I'd get Lost World in a heartbeat. Bastards.

  9. Good lightgun game. There's nothing really new gameplay wise, though chainshooting enemies for massive hits was neat. The last boss also had a neat gimmick look. Not a bad game by any means, and definately worth your time if you want a random fun lightgun game.

Word. I didn't care too much about the game, but the last boss looked cool as hell in a retro-futuristic kind of way.
