Thread: Run for the hills, here comes the RIAA!

  1. #71
Well, at least now P2P will be left alone as a technology for a while. I didn't want the RIAA to get rid of it before it fully blossomed.

As for sueing individuals, while I don't really like the means they are taking, they do have a right to go after anyone that pirates their stuff. If you want to find out ways to fight stuff like this though check out http://www.eff.org. They do a lot of lobbying to protect consumer rights, expecially dealing wiht electronics, the internet, and multimedia.

As far as teaching the RIAA a lesson is concerned, the best ways have already been listed, if the price for a CD is too high, don't buy the CD, but don't pirate it either. Also, look for indie groups that have their music at more reasonable prices. As the indie groups gain more ground the RIAA will have to lower their prices too compete and since they won't hold so much power, more artists can go it on their own rather than signing the rights to their music to RIAA members.
Taking it one day at a time.

    Which is lame.

If you are going to DL off P2P, you should return the favor and Upload everything.

I DL a lot of stuff and usually leave the P2P stuff or BT going when I sleep, so people can get the shit then.

My understanding of the situation is the exact opposite - the record company pays, because airplay = advertising. Which just makes the internet radio situation even more fucked up.

  4. So what's the deal are any of you guys still downloading stuff? Any one tried Rick's PG link to see if that program works? Cause I got the itching to DL some shit...

  5. considering that the RIAA is violating both the DMCA and the Patriot act, I don't see how they can continue to sue their own custormers "legally" without breaking privacy laws in the constitution like they are currently doing, even if it is for "non-commercial use" which is perfectly legal.

In any case I'd keep in contact with the EFF just in case those bastards decide they want a peice.

If this law gets passed then why doesnt Congress just burn down every fucking Library in the U.S. Because of library's some authors probably dont make near as much money as they could. Why would a person want to buy a book when the library SHARES it to them and they can read it for free.Hell , why not ban Blockbuster video and all video stores because I'm sure the DVD industry would be better off if people could only buy DVD's instead of rent them..

in other words FUCK OFF RIAA
The library pays for the books, and the book is only one person's hands at a time. This means that you basically have a temporary ownership of a title when the book is checked out. This is similar situation to most software sold nowadays, which allows you to have a program installed on an umlimited amount of times, but only on one computer at a time. You are not allowed to copy and distribute the product for profit or for free.

Some of the RIAA's practices are definitely immoral, but then again, being a hypacrite by downloading licensed media doesn't make the perpretrator any better than the supposed "evil". Any business, big or small, would probably prefer a higher profit vs. a lower profit, and the RIAA is definitely taking advantage of this prospect.

I'm still downloading stuff. I don't question the fact that it's illegal or wrong... I just don't care. I'm too poor.
