Thread: How many systems are actually on the market

  1. How many systems are actually on the market

World-wide System sales for this generations (as of March 2003), according to EGM are as follows:

    PS2: 51.2
    Xbox: 13
    GameCube: 9.4

These numbers are refuted by Kinopio, in the "Nintendo and Microsoft partnership??" thread:

    PS2-51.2 million
    Cube-9.4 million
    Xbox-8 million

My question is this: Considering how many systems (PS2s, especially) are sent back as defective, how accurate are these numbers? How are defective returns processed?

  2. I don't know about the defective consoles, but the Xbox has'nt sold shit in Japan. Currently it has sold around 56,000 units this year in Japan. The other 2 territories would have to sell in great numbers, for it to surpass the Gamecube in world wide sales.

  3. Yeah, Sony had Xbox as 13 million userbase, but when you do the math, it isn't close. I think that they have a slight worldwide lead over the Cube these days, but it wasn't anywhere near there. At last check it was up by a couple 100K in Europe, 700K in the States...sure, there are other territories, but the base is so small that they don't add up to much.

  4. I know Sony usually only counts SHIPPED product, meaning that huge stack of PS2s in the back of your local K-Mart count as sold to them. And all the broken ones also count as "shipped"

I dont think Nintendo or Microsoft do that, but I could be wrong.

  5. I'm just waiting for someone to come in here and insist that the whole broken PS2 thing is an exaggeration because their PS2 never broke, even though everyone else's has.

  6. see thats the thing
in NPDs tracking i know for games returned copies of games dont get minused out form the total sold

    which i think they should

i mean hell for Dead of Alive XBV we sold the same copy about 3 or 4 times but that added up to say 4 sales total for the game when it shouldnt have

as far as defective PS2s i dont think you can get an exact number because most defective PS2s seem to just be thrown out and they go out and buy another one

    just some thoughts *shrug*

  7. I have just been having more issues with my PS2 this week. Went out and got a lens cleaner (and praying that it helps) but I am a bit to frightened to test it - I don't want to be pissed off again

Shin I think you are right - most of the defective PS2s are thrown out... (I am about to throw mine through a window)

  8. PS2= one shitty piece of hardware.

I think everyone I know has problems with theirs. Even at the store people complain about it.

I RARELY have people say they have problems with Xbox or Cube.

  9. actually, i honestly haven't had a problem with my PS2 (knocks on wood). however, my xbox did freeze up twice during splinter cell.

  10. I've got on at length with my issues with Sony's consoles, sufficed to say, the PSX and PS3 had better be built better than the current stuff, which they probably won't be.
