Xeno is correct, the Saturn cart-based mod will only let you play imports.

You will need an actual Saturn mod to play backups. The cart slot has no access to the security stuff because it's built into the CD drive. Because of this, you will have to do some work on the CD drive, so don't bother with it unless you're confident you won't fry your Saturn.
