He may not be using the guide yet, maybe he just wanted to pick it up so he had for after he beat the game or for other reasons...Originally posted by Mzo
Um, you bought a guide for an RE game before it came out? Do you really think you'll need it?
I really don't like this "new" (yeah, it's a few years old, I guess) trend of guides for EVERY FREAKING GAME that comes out. If a game ever NEEDS a guide to be played, then there is something very flawed in its execution. If the player uses a guide to get through a game without trying first, then (IMHO) the majority of the enjoyment and satisfaction regarding said game is lost. It's like watching a movie with someone who keeps telling you what's about to happen.
Now, buying a game to replay a game, like an RPG, in order to collect all the items, secrets, etc., is OK. I dunno. I hate guides now. I hate the way that people are shocked when they hear I beat a game without the guide. Know how I did it? Here's my secret! I'm not a goddamned retard!
Jeez.
I like to buy guides often for the artwork and because they're interesting to read--they give backstory and character descriptions, etc. Of course it would kill the game to use the guide first off, but that's not why everyone buys them. For instance, I pick up guides to Working Design's games because they're designed really well and are interesting to read. Not sure about the RE guide, haven't seen it yet...
