Wow, that's some nifty playing. What's even more amazing is he got more than half of that score on his last life! Jebus.
<img align="right" src="http://www.the-nextlevel.com/news/0307/dk.jpg">Steve Wiebe of Redmond, Washington, has scored 947,200 points on Donkey Kong, thus becoming the verified champion of the girlfriend-rescuing, hurdle-jumping arcade classic.
"The feat was recorded on videotape so future generations can see how it was done," explains Walter Day, Chief Editor of the forthcoming edition of Twin Galaxies' Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records.
Wiebe leaves in the dust noted rivals like Billy Mitchell and Timothy Sczerby and was also the first player in Twin Galaxies' 23-year-history to pass the one million-point barrier on Donkey Kong Junior, which he did last year.
"Donkey Kong was one of the top three most hotly contested titles in arcade history, the other two being Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man," says Robert Mruczek, Chief Referee for Twin Galaxies.
Mruczeck, who personally viewed Wiebe's 2-hour long videotape in order to verify the legitimacy of the claim to the Donkey Kong title, has written up an extensive analysis (http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1253) of Wiebe's accomplishment, including many scoring milestones.
Donkey Kong, Nintendo's first mega-successful title, was released in 1981 for arcades where carpenter Mario tries to rescue his girlfriend Pauline. And as for this new record, I haven't played the game in a while but I'm pretty sure this beats my old high score.

It's amazing that someone would go after the record, after so many years. Congrats to him.
I thought that Defender and Galaga would be in vie for the third place game.
Slow news day, huh?
