There's a difference. In anime, the change in character "size" represents changes in emotions, feelings, or situations. In FFVII's cutscenes, they meant absolutely nothing and were very jarring. They normally walk around SD, then become full-size for battles, then become SD for talking, then become full-size for looking at something. Huh? However, the FMV that they actually bothered integrating into the scenes was very well done and a perfect example of how it should be (i.e., the airship introduction scene, where it pans from you climbing the ladder into FMV of the airship, very beautifully done).Originally posted by Finch
I don't think that this is that much of a problem. As long as the same story's being told, there is no confusion. Anime and manga often have characters morphing into super-deformed or more abstract versions of themselves. It's not a smooth transition, but it adds a bit of visual variety.
Cut scenes should be used sparingly IMO. Only to enhance or move a story line, or by awarding the gamer.
