Thread: Shikigami no Shiro II home port

  1. Shikigami no Shiro II home port

Shikigami no Shiro II, the popular NAOMI-based arcade shooter, will be coming home to the GAMECUBE exclusively on October 24th. Yes, you read right. THE GAMECUBE. Not the PS2, not the XBOX. I'm totally happy about this!! Here's the japanese news link for proof:

    http://gameonline.jp/news/2003/07/20011.html

Other tidbits: it'll be 6800 yen, and released by some Japanese company called Kid's Station. I doubt you'll see a USA release.

You can't say I don't get the news on Japanese shooters fast.

EDIT: I forgot to mention there will be a limited edition bundled with some sort of manekineko figurine.

  2. Too bad its GCN only- it would be nice for more to be able to play it. Speaking of which, I wonder if this will make a US release? If Ikaruga made it here, then...

  3. Yeah you're right, Ikaruga was released worldwide, so Shikigami II has a chance. But it'll probably be Mobile Light Force 84 or some butchered title like that.

Anyway DC borderdown on September 25th, then GC Shikigami II on October 24th! Too cool.

The good news just keeps on coming. First, Macross and now a shooter on the GC...

  5. Great news. I really want to try this game. If only I had a Gamecube...

    I was hoping for/expecting a PS2 release.

  6. At least they made it easy on the importers, with boot discs and mod chips readily available for the Cube.

I doubt it was their original intention in putting it on the Gamecube, but kudos anyway. :P

  7. Apparently alpha systems (shikigami's makers) opened a petition back on May 15th, and fans voted for which system they wanted Shiki II to be on. The Gamecube won. They had originally planned it as an Xbox exclusive port, but backed out on that due to the awful hardware sales of the xbox in japan. The GC makes more sense financially, and it's what the Japanese fans voted for so that's what they're getting.

Great to see democracy at work in the video game world.

  8. Ahem... that's "Alfa System"

  9. Will there be TATE?

  10. No DC version, as we'd feared. But GameCube is the next best thing: Import friendly, technically sound and a robust console. Better than the PS2 in those respects. It would have been better to have as many Naomi games on DC as possible though.

  11. Bah, I need to buy an adaptor now for my stick.

At least it's coming home Best shooter since Dodonpachi IMO.

  12. i thought the first one was pretty cool, so i'll pick this up. it'll probably be dirt cheap too.

  13. 6800Y is full price dude, importers are going to charge over $50 for this one.

  14. oh well. i'll pick it up anyways.

need to get a job again, fall is coming up.

  15. Nice! I knew it'd come home, but I wouldn't have expected Gamecube. Thanks blueskied.

  16. thats fucking awesome ill be getting this for sure

    damn thats fucking awesome

  17. Oh, good. Put it on the system with the worst d-pad imaginable.

  19. Playstation to GameCube Controller Converter

    only $10 at Japan Videogames

  20. Well, it's an improvement at least. However slight.

In a perfect world I'd be able to use a Saturn pad for everything.

  21. Nice. Playing imports on my GC is effortless. If this ended up being import Xbox exclusive like it was originally planned I would have been screwed. Good news indeed.

Unexpected news nonetheless. Better one system than none.

    2003.

  23. These days, any shooter home port is good news. I just hope this comes to the US unscathed. I'm tired of playing shooters with removed features, altered characters, etc.

  24. Yes![/Marv Albert]

Star Soldier, Border Down, R-Type Final, and now this.

It's a fine year for shmups indeed.

  25. Great news. I had already decided to take the GC plunge thanks to Star Soldier.

If it were coming to Xbox instead, then I would've had to cross my fingers and hope for Taito to grab it once again for a PS2 port- or get the Xbox modded.

    Finished in 2010: 23 games (AC: 6, Amiga: 1, Gen:1, MSX2: 1, PC: 5, Flash: 1, TG16: 3, X360: 3, SNES: 2)

  26. I really wonder if this is a time-exclusive deal. The last game hit three platforms and I imagine a ton of Japanese PS2 owners will be miffed at this.

Still, woo hoo another game for the Freeloader! *-neo

    Then just import them..?

  28. One of the things the gamecube has going for it over the N64 is the amount of quality old school/arcade style games. Let the trend continue.

Shiki 1 hit 3 platforms? I only know of PS2 and Xbox versions. There was a third?? Or do you just mean the arcade version as a platform?

I've heard recently a Japanese Xbox version may in fact appear shortly after the GC version, depending on how the GC version's sales are. So that should appease some of you xbox owners without GCs.

In a totally unrelated topic, I just saw a commercial for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles while typing this, and it looks awesome! A great commercial with lots of in-game footage. I'm glad I preordered a copy.

To continue this trend: Was it a US commercial? What time and channel? And though I've not seen the game in motion, I too am glad I reserved it.
