Thread: Controller S ships

  1. Controller S ships

No more cramps or accidental button mash!

As previously announced on TNL, for those gamers out there complaining that the American Xbox controllers are too bulky, or you get cramps from it or even just the look of it, don't have to worry anymore. Microsoft has just shipped their newly redesigned controller called, Controller S. The Controller S is identical to its Japanese counterpart. Currently, black is the only color Microsoft released stateside.

If you noticed, the size of the controller has changed. The new design is much smaller, which should help gamers with smaller hands. It’s buttons also got a change up – they are now in a plus shape like the Playstation’s controller. Also, the black and white buttons that were once on the top of the controller are now tucked in the lower right hand side. Finally, the D-pad was changed to make the cross more defined.

Controller S controllers should be on stores shelves for a retail price of $39.95.

So are the regular Xbox controllers. What, did you expect Microsoft to drop the price because they were smaller?

  7. Yeah, they are pricy, but so are just about every other controller or accessory coming out these days.

I just picked up one of these today and it's an improvement over the old controller in just about every way. Not only size, but the buttons have been flattened to reduce finger pain, the button placement is no longer wonky, and the d-pad is actually decent.

Tested it with about six Xbox games and the game usually controlled better. The only game I didn't notice any difference with was Halo. JSRF controls a lot better with the S, a huge difference, but for the others the difference was usually pretty minor.

  8. Me and Beboplover played that thing to death, and believe me, it's a nice improvement over the american pad. I think it controls about the same, but my fingers never miss buttons and my palms no longer ache. thumbs up for this gamer....

  9. Did they make the triggers less sensitive? If so, then I might consider getting one for Gun Valk....

They seem to be. I was playing Gunvalkyrie with it for about a level and a half and the trigger reaction seemed to be a bit better. With the other controller, it sometimes felt like it kept boosting a second after I had taken my finger off the trigger, but with the S its the instant I let go. Could just be my perceptions though.

Just buy one from a place with a good return policy. I like the S better, but I'm sure some people won't. It's hard to make a controller that suits everybody.
