Thread: Great Teacher Onizuka!

  1. Dreamcast Great Teacher Onizuka!

Just wondering if there was any other fans of this anime on the boards since I've been watching it lately (a friend has the DVD) But I've only really caught bits and pieces of it since I dropped in here and there while my brother was watching so I've seen the 8th and 9th DVD and then the 1st and 2nd. The part near the end with the habu snake...hilarious

But for anyone wondering what it's about, it's about Eikichi Onizuka, 22 years old, who used to be this legendary gang leader and now he wants to teach. So I think you can imagine how that can turn out. And I think the animators who made this were influenced by Goldenboy since there's a lot of really radical facial expressions, just like in Goldenboy. Most likely my favorite anime in the comedy department.

  2. Yeah, Onizuka's facial expressions have a lot in common with Kintaro's from Golden Boy. The guys in Colorful pull off similar facial expressions as well.

I love GTO. Its one of the few series where I'm ravenous to get and watch the newest volume when it comes out. Only four more episodes to go though

  3. GTO is awesome. I haven't seen the anime, but I've been snatching up Tokyopop's releases of the manga as soon as they're available. They skipped this month for releases, and I'm going through withdrawal. T_T His perverted expressions are one of the best parts of the manga. They're hilarious. After the first few volumes I was worried I'd lose interest because of the way Onizuka manages to get himself out of ANY situation - there wasn't much suspense. Luckily, the stories have become more interesting since then, and besides, the fun is in the crazy ways Onizuka gets out of bad situations, not just the fact that he gets out of them.

  4. Great series, both in anime and manga.
I reccomend fans look up fan translations of the mangas "Bad Company" and "Shonen Ju'nai Gumi," which chronicle the adventures of young Ryuji and Onizukea.

  5. another fan right here. sad to see the anime end in a few months, but if the live-action series came out, that'd be tops. i have my gripes though, like how the girls are such fucking cunts, and how the stories more or less are the same. but despite that i always end up watching a bunch of times because it's pretty damn engrossing. just to see oni try to get out of problems that may/may not be his own and to get into even more trouble is gold.

and the 9th disc episodes kind of pissed me off just because of those fucking girls!!! and this time it's not even miyabi and her stupid cronies.

  6. Yea those girls are the biggest bitches ever, thats so annoying when Anko and her friends are beating up on that small guy, he should just drop kick them or something...but it's so funny how gullable(sp?) onizuka is sometimes...like during the first couple of episodes when that dude was pasting his head on porno bodies and whatnot...you know what I mean, his reaction is too funny.

That's pretty interesting. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, the girls in GTO are horribly mean. Anime seems to display two types of women - overly nice (Tohru from Fruits Basket) or so evil you just want to slap them (nearly every girl in GTO).

  8. Speak of the devil...

    GTO box set

Hm. I've stared at the GTO DVDs in Best Buy many a time... But I never really had the uncontrollable urge to get the first volume. I always passed them over for something else.

Hm. Seems like now's the time.

  9. i want the box and the shirt. i've already collected the series (excluding disc 10) so it'd be swank of them if they released the box seperately. i doubt it though.

and it'd be kicky fast if the shirt was a copy of the one with the mountain design on it.
