AGETEC Inc. has announced that Space Channel 5 Special Edition for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system is groovin' its way to North America this fall.

"We are thrilled to have great and innovative content from Sega's video game creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi," said Rob Alvarez Vice President of Marketing for AGETEC, Inc. "Space Channel 5 Special Edition is hip, cool and stylish and will be a perfect fit for the PlayStation 2 audience."

Space Channel Special Edition will include a huge array of content and surprises that include secret levels, mini-quests, hidden characters and more.

According to Agetec, the Special Edition release will include:

Two discs full of groovy techno tunes, fashionably in vogue characters, and game play spanning two completely different storylines that players of all ages and sexes will enjoy.

Allow players to take part in "Rhythm Battles", in which Ulala takes control of a musical instrument and plays in time with her opponent.

Give Ulala's singing voice a workout in the "Lyrics Battle" mode.

Additional two-player mode for co-operative play.

100's of funky levels to get down to.

Space Channel 5 Special Edition for the PlayStation 2 is expected to carry an estimated retail price of $29.99.

so what's the deal here? does this seem to be part 2 or what? cause although i have part one, i didn't dig it much (well, to be honest, i haven't bothered getting past the first level). but i would like to support UGA, and i hear from fans of the series that part 2 is where they really nailed it, so i wouldn't mind giving this a shot if it is indeed part 2 and not just an actual special edition of part one.

or at least they were originally going to be when they were set to release this summer. now i see the release is 11/18, so maybe we may get both as one?

I hope so. I really liked the first game... blows any PaRappa away, although that's not really saying much.

Can anyone fill in some details about the sequel (i.e. differing play mechanics, storyline, etc.) I've heard squat about it.

Space Channel 5 Part 2 blows Part 1 out of the water. It's so much more interesting and complex (and I loved the first game). I have it on import for Dreamcast and I can't get enough of the super cool Japanese singing robots. They rule!

Anyways, this special release sounds super cool. I especially look forward to the two player action ...

And sggg, you suck at SC5.
