Then on top of that are they saying that The Pachi's have "rare" certain death situations? So umm this guy can 1 credit these games no problem? Am I missing something here? DP in any form or reincarnation is not easy (actuall I can not speak for DDP2).
Not only that but he forgot to mention that Donpachi and Dodonpachi is also on PSone, quick someone find out where he lives!
By certain death I think he's maybe hinting at the small hit box btw.

Ok that makes sence. He should have been more clear, because newbies to the game may have a different opinion about the game then.

Matt, check out Gunbird (the first one), and then play RoboAleste on the SegaCD. As I mentioned above; the levels where you have to fight the train seem similar.

1 freakin word... GRADIUS. I mean, common, this is just poor research.

Perhaps I am wrong here, but the only bee's in the game you pick up as a bonus and the end boss of the second loop. Also they never mention DonPachi my favorite.

I am done with this guy. Seriously Defender was the best thing you could put as the barebones strip down of modern shooters?

O well hopefull this article will do 2 things promote shmups and Border Down.

    PS:

Where they got this crap is beyond me, but they say hear-say but dont even mention Cave's Toplan lineage or Treasure's Konami. What ever.

I did not know that G.Rev came from Taito, that make me more excited about it.
    Wah.

Though, seriously, shooter fans are just about the hardest sons of bitches to please.

I don't think the dates even match up here. That aside, the two games are very dissimilar. The train section in Robo Aleste lasts for about 3 minutes and is one of the most action-less things I've ever seen in a shooter. The Gunbird part is similar only in that it's a train bit in a vertical scrolling shooter. Much shorter, actual action. I think this is like the topic at shmups.com about the "MUSHA Layer Section Soukyugurentai connection." It's stretching it.

  8. Yeah, I just got done playing some Gunbird.
...and I don't know exactly what I was thinking.

Still, something in Gunbird made me think that there was a RoboAleste relation -and this was before I read the article at hand. Allow me to continue the stretch and wonder whether there's an artist or two that may have worked on both games.

Who would be hardcore enough to have the staff lists for both games?
Next chance I have to get my SegaCD down here, I'm going to make that a project. ..'ll get back on this one.

You can start here http://www.vgmuseum.com/ that might lead you in the correct direction.

  10. Compile staff didn't form Psikyo - they formed Raizing. Gameplay conventions from the Aleste series are very evident in games like Battle Garegga, Soukyugurentai, and Shippu Mahou Daisakusen. And while I'm on the nitpicking bandwagon...

G.Rev seems to be the one outfit listed here that isn't about anything but shooters. Founded by various veterans from Taito and other multi-tasking developers, it's made one game and one game only for anything outside the mobile-phone realm: Border Down...
Grev got their feet wet with the Naomi and Dreamcast with Doki Doki Idol Star Seeker.

Import fans might want to pick that one up, if only for the novelty of a new Dreamcast game that isn't a hideous NEC Interchannel PC port.
Uninformed and inaccurate. Bash the stuff Takuyo or D3 bring out in that genre if you like, but NEC Interchannel releases quality software for the most part.

And this is a cheap shot, but keep in mind that the author of this article is the guy responsible for the infamous "Our frothing demand increases..." quote.

It's a good article for what it is - a report on the state of shooters on a mainstream gaming site - but it's horribly researched and inaccurate.
