Thread: get a new video card, or fix what i have right now

  1. Raspberry get a new video card, or fix what i have right now

to make a long story short, the built-in fan on my current video card is about to die on me. i've had it for a little more than a year. do i go ahead and put the warranty into effect, wait who knows how long, and get it fixed? or do i spend the $$$ and get a new one?

    i currently have a vistiontek geforce4 t1 4200 128mb ram card.

    i'm open to suggestions.

  2. wait, and buy one when Half Life or Doom come around. that's as long as you have something else to put into the comp in the mean time.

  3. i would just have them send you a new fan. If they won't i think they make specialty heatsinks/fans for video cards that you could just put on yourself. No need to waste all that money

turns out visiontek is no longer supporting my video card so i had a couple of options. i chose to hunt down a 3rd party replacement fan. that won't get here for a couple of days. i'm currently using my dreamcast right now. it's been awhile since i used it to surf the 'net.

You could use your PC with the case cover off. I can't imagine the pain you are going through, surfing with the DC. I have'nt used mine(DC browser) for over a year and back then it had it's problems.

I have a 9500 Pro that rocks the house...

Seriously, if you can afford it, go for one of the ATI models around. The GF4 is so 8 days ago.
