Thread: Play (September, 2003)

  1. Hatcher I believe is using the Sonic Heroes engine or a revised SA2 one. If it were using the Mario Sunshine engine it would have to have been retooled to run at double it's frame rate (60fps). I think Sonic Team would have just gone with their already 60fps SA2 engine which shows a ton of detail and next to no pop-up. In fact, I believe Mario Sunshine would have looked twice as good if they had used the SA2 engine. But then again, maybe we wouldn't have had those nice water and graffiti effects...but screw that, I'd rather have had 60fps. :P

  2. Again, try playing it yourself, see if you run into any of those problems, and see if it bothers you. It's all well and good quoting problems (no one here by the way has denied that there are bugs, but you failed to notice that apparently), but it's all about enjoyment factor (to me anyway, and I'd say most of the people here).

So again, play the game, in November or whenever it comes out on PC, and see if you'd give it a B. Then you can continue on your little tirade here.

And what is that "Xbox games aren't flawed" nonsense? I don't recall bringing up anything other than KOTOR. There are buggy games for any system you can imagine, this isn't news to anyone (or so I thought).

  3. Um...bugs bother me. It doesn't matter if the game is fun or crap. Are bugs ever good? No.

The fact of the matter is those problems EXIST, which is what a review is based on.

Or are you suggesting that the bugs might not be an issue? If I'm a reviewer, I can't make that decision for anyone else. Fact of the matter: the game is buggier than the overwhelming majority of console games. Opinion of the matter: said bugs probably won't bother (insert person here).

  4. Bugs bother you? I hadn't noticed!

  5. So why are you continuing to say "play the game and see if they bother you" when you ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER?!?!?

  6. I have to side with Bob. Even if I enjoy a game, the fact that Bioware rushed it out the door for whatever reason is insulting and deserving of a lower grade. They could certainly take the time to test it more (come on, just a month more in testing, that would have fixed most of them), but they didn't.

Even though this behavior is normal in the PC world (especially for Bioware), console games should NOT suffer this fate, and I'd hate to see this become a trend. That is why Bioware should not be coddled when what may be a very good game is bug-ridden.

  7. Bugs can be fun, though. Mission is sliding across the room, weeee! My wookie keeps doing flips! Carth can moonwalk! Jabba the Hut has joined my party! I don't mind the bugs in a game where I save on average every 3 minutes (quick save too, no hassle).

  8. But damn, Lhadatt you really gotta try it; shit's phenomenal! Besides, it's not like the crashes happen constantly. I know people who've experienced them and don't care. Even when they have to start over.

I agree with some of what you're saying, I don't want glitchy games to become a trend. But I'm not going to reduce a game to Matrix status because of a few glitches.

  9. Wow. People had to START OVER? Good God. I'm definitely waiting now.

The Matrix game was hardly a B, so don't put words in my mouth. But, if I had to start over, that Matrix game suddenly doesn't sound so bad...

  10. Meh. Matrix looks flawed just from watching the game footage. Hopefully it will have been vastly improved by the time the special edition hits in November.

I'd like to play KOTOR, but I don't care to buy a Xbox for it. I may play it on the PC, as long as it doesn't have Neverwinter's RPG system.
