The Nitro is the yellow one withpout the bottom right? The problem with just calling it "The Superman" is that there's always a ride named after him at every SixFlags and they're always different. The Superman rinde at the Ma. SixFlags is almost exactly like The Nitro (if I'm thinking of the proper ride that is.)

I think the problem with Superman is that the world has grown to cynical for him. It's the reason why issues like Action comics 775 and Kingdom Come are such popular stories. In those stories it shows Superman taking on a villan or group of villians (that are actually vigilanties or antiheroes) in a world that dosen't want a big blue boyscout saving their day. In these stories , however, Superman still triumphs, still saves the day, not because he's wanted or needed, but because for him it's the right thing to do. That's the appeal of Superman, he's good and he triumphs over evil. The reason he has lost his appeal is that writers are trying to constantly make him something he is not. They try to make him a politian or a voice of democracy and the american way instead of what the character is at his core, a super hero.
Finality, on the other hand, is a means to an ends in certain stories, sometimes there is nothing left to say in a narrative. But as fans of episodic shows like soap operas and wrestling, even our grandparents with old cliffhangers and radio dramas know that the evolution of story can be just as interesting as the plot of a current arc. Things change in these types of stories just like they change in our own lives. Finite series may be fine for some stories but I refuse to bring up my future children in a world without Superman.
If Superman's story needs to be changed for modern readers to adapt it to there own lives fine, but killing off a character to make him a background element for future stories is just as stupid and gimmicky as killing him off to increase sales figures.
My point in all this incoherent rambling is that Superman has all the potential to be as great as he ever was, He just needs to be written in a situation where a hero is needed most. He needs to be in a place where compromise isn't an option, and valor isn't his reward. Rather his reward will be giving hope to those had none, hope to achieve more than what is given to them, more than what is considered possible; and to inspire more to heroism.
I was about to suggest they kill Lois to bring out a more personal/human side to superman, but that'll piss off the fans to no end.
Maybe they could work an angle where he doesn't age like everybody else since he's been fighting so many years, but that wouldn't work as everybody around him hasn't really aged either.
I haven't been keeping up with spiderman lately. Didn't they kill off Mary Jane just not too long ago?
"Your soul better belong to Jesus, mmm-mmmmm..... cause your ass belongs to me!"
In essence, Superman is really falling prey to the modern market.
The American market really can't digest Superman anymore. Kids don't like him coz he's not "cool". He doesn't do kung fu. He's doesn't throw anime-style fireballs. His main fear is a green rock. He's married.
In addtion, Superman is boring. Being the grand-daddy of all superheroes, no gimmick that can be done to a superhero hasn't been done to Superman.
The fact the American comic book industry is in total disarray doesn't help much either.
Add everything together and Superman can get himself into trouble. Between waning popularity, they only throw more gimmicks at him and change up his character... but to no avail... these things just throw fans off more and do nothing to introduce new fans.
Thanks, dude, I'm not a total retard. Check this out:[gamevet said...[/I]Nope, Superman debuted in 1938, batman 1939
I don't mean their first real life comic appearances, I meant who came first when it comes to DC continuity. The Zero Hour timeline has them debut at almost the same time, though I do think Superman was first there. The cartoon timeline has Batman active while Clark is still in Smallville (his mother tells him not to be like that crazy guy in Gotham). I always just assumed that Bats was around and kicking ass before Superman ever showed up with his brutish, inelegant powers and cockiness. Bats just seems older and more experienced, doesn't he?I said...
though I think Bats was before him, in the DC timeline

It's sad to see what a (rumored) million dollars can make an otherwise brilliant writer and artist crap out.
I swear to god my ex-best friend; she knows more about Batman continuity (mostly unwillingly) than most comics fans do, thanks to me never shutting the hell up about him.Satsuki said...[/I]
Batman on the other hand, I could talk about nonstop for hours. seriously. I have.
I'm such a loser ;_;

For me, Superman has always been, and will probably always be, the poster-boy for boring superheroes. He's iconic, his powers can be "written in" as needed and don't have clear limits, he's practically invincilbe and superior in possible aspect (except humor [/George]), and has no real fallibilites except the vulnerablility to Kryponite -already an outdated and arbitrary device.
I just don't see anything interesting about what he does or how he does it, and it has mystified me how he's stayed popular for so long (much like Peanuts). When he debuted, it made sense, but now? He should have died or retired.
This is why they are taking Jim Lee off of Batman and bringing him over to Superman, they want to repeat the business Batman got. I see sales going up, but only for that one title (Since there are like 4 Supes titles a month) and if Lee leaves, so do the sales.

Wow, really? Peanuts? That comic was great throughout its entire run.much like "Peanuts"
The biggest problem with comics today is Lobo not having a series. Fragging bastiches was always more entertaining than stopping crime.
